Description
Nestled in the Taiwanese countryside, ours is an immersive, regenerative retreat where community, creativity, and sustainability come together. Our 2-hectare site features a forest, a natural pond, diverse gardens, and hundreds of native species—an environment alive with learning opportunities for anyone passionate about ecology, permaculture, and conservation.
Workawayers contribute to hands-on projects such as gardening, interior design, videography/social media, business development and creative projects, while also helping us craft immersive experiences for guests. Beyond work, the site offers spaces to relax, explore, and connect: musical instruments, and peaceful hideaways throughout the forest.
We value purposeful socializing, curiosity, and collaboration. At WonderWood, you’ll be part of a vibrant, international community, learning from experts in sustainability, the arts, and storytelling, all while living lightly on the land.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
Join us as a Workawayers
We’re looking for independent, motivated individuals who can take initiative on projects, whether personal or for the benefit of our community. Once tasks are explained, we expect volunteers to complete them without ongoing supervision.
All volunteers share household responsibilities—sweeping, dishes, cooking, tidying, and garbage—split evenly among everyone on site, including hosts. These are part of daily life and not counted toward work hours.
We seek long-term collaborators to help build our vision and community. When reaching out, please indicate your preferred role and dates of stay.
Available Roles:
- Bob the Builder: Infrastructure, repairs, and DIY projects. Requires self-sufficiency and hands-on skills.
- Old MacDonald: Gardening and Permaculture. Ideal for those eager to work with plants and soil.
- Amy Santiago: Organizational tasks, event and reservations management, and process building. Strong prioritization skills.
- Schmidt: Housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance. Suitable for shorter stays or those who enjoy structure.
Possible Projects Include:
- Ecology, habitat restoration, wildlife identification
- Videography and Photography
- Organic gardening, planting, pruning, composting, aquaculture
- Art and crafts
- Animal husbandry & beekeeping
- Renovations and interior design
- Natural building, bamboo crafts, carpentry, water systems
- DIY, appropriate technology, passive heating/cooling
- Game design: AR adventures, scavenger hunts, escape-room style challenges
- Homesteading, herbology, brewing
We cannot offer a wage, but provide room in exchange for 5 hours of help per day. Meals are shared, with volunteers encouraged to participate in meal prep and optional trips to local markets.Languages

We are located just minutes away from historic Beipu, with frequent bus and shuttle service.
“Beipu Old Street was Beipu's most thriving commercial district in the Qing period. Today, it boasts Taiwan's highest concentration of historic sites, with seven such locations along a short 200-meter stretch… This is also a good place for a taste of Hakkanese cuisine, from ground tea to persimmon cakes.
