    Description

My name is Sylvia, I am native from the beautiful Island of Puerto Rico. I have developed a farm/ orchard/ small guest house project on the island of Vieques, a Spanish Virgin Island, which is part of Puerto Rico. Vieques on its own is a very enchanted place with virgin white sand beaches, turquoise water, coral reefs and a beautiful little mountain range. Also the most powerful bioluminescent bay in the world.

I have created some amazing services for our guests, such as yoga, massages and vegetarian food, all together to create a space to recharge, rejuvenate and reconnect with nature and ones self. we are starting a second stage of construction and expansion during the 'low season" from August to December.
I plan on building and construction during the week and still operate as a hotel in the weekends. Starting in December We will fully open everyday running as normal with the hotel tasks. We need garden help now which will be ongoing into the next year.
The positions for kitchen assistant, host, yoga and massage are starting in December 5

    STARTING NOW:
we are looking for 1 month to 3 commitment

We have a beautiful garden with a great diversity of tropical flowers and fruit trees. We also have a small edible garden that needs attention. As well as general maintainence. Our food and herbs that we serve at breakfast comes from the edible and herb garden.
We are looking for gardeners to help us also with a new project to expand the food production.
The first 25 hours would be based on the work away exchange, and aditional hours after that, negotiable pay after a small grace period. We are looking for a few hearty, creative, motivated players for our crew with permaculture, agricultural, or some garden landscape experience and basic understanding of land and water systems helpful. This would be a 2 month period from Sept through the beginning of November. We will be implementing some small swale trenches, terrace , plant guilds and clusters of food forest as well as building a greenhouse. Additionaly, we could especially use someone with experience in permaculture greywater systems in tropical climates even if it was for a short time. Ability to work and live in community and shared spaces cleanly, and responsibly preferred. This place is magic and healing for all who come.

    STARTING DECEMBER 5:
*we are looking for commitments from 1-3 months

We have a vegan kitchen with focus on Ayurvedic system. We are looking for an assistant cook. our kitchen is open ti the eating area, the cooks need to be able to interact with the guests.
We are a small hotel with only 11 rooms. The operation in the kitchen is fairly small and we have limited dishes that we prepare per shift. we focus on quality and freshness.

We expect 30-40 hours a week of work
25 as exchange for lodging and meals
The other hours paid at $8/ hour

    * * * * * * * * * * * * HOTEL HOST ASSISTANT * * * * * * * * * * *
Our Hotel feels more like a home with a lot of communal areas and great activities for the guests. The interaction with Our hosts and the guests is more like when you are hosting a gathering in your house.
the task are varied and the days are mixed with different activities ranging from greeting guests and checking then in with a tour of the property, helping serve breakfast, creating the infusions for the hotel, maintaining the communal areas tidy and presentable, helping guests plan their trip and a bit of answering emails.
it's an overall a great fun position
It requires good presence, with this we do not mean clean cut. Tatoos, funky hair and and groove fashion is welcome. But you need to be clean, respectful, multitasking, and responsible. basic knowledge on computers is necessary

    * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * YOGA // MORNING HELP * * * * * * * * * * * *

We offer yoga everyday at 7am. It's next to the natural water pool on a deck with the beautiful sounds of the morning, fresh air and breeze. We of course tailor the class to all levels and if there is someone that is their first time yoga class we take it down a notch to facilitate the class to the starters. In general we welcome a vigorous flow to start the day. The class starts slow as to wake up the body, and we work it up to a vinyasa flow.
On full moon we like to offer a class at night to celebrate the energy of the moon and we are happy to create any other yoga events such as a mindfulness class in the forest, or something special for a solstice for example.
We have created a some task around the yoga // morning help position which are as follow:
6-7am prepare the yoga area, open the pavilion (our communal house with is attached to the yoga deck), start up the infusions which are left made from the night before, infuse drinking water with fruits and flowers and tighten up the space.
    7-8:15am yoga in the deck
we provide all the mats, blocks, straps, singing bowls, incense, bells and speakers for music is desired.

8:30-11am help serving the vegan breakfast to guest.
our kitchen is open to the communal house and the eating area is part of the pavilion
we are a small hotel of 11 rooms, and we only serve one dish a day. so the service aspect is simple and very enjoyable as It is a great time to get to know the guests staying with us and interacting with them.

Our exchange is 25 hours a week for lodging and meals. the yoga// morning help would be 5 days a week.
if you would like put in some extra hours work in exchange of pay ($8 an hour), I am happy to discuss other tasks you might like to do such as service in the night time dinner, gardening, kitchen help or housekeeping.

We are happy to share our knowledge with you as well and teach you new techniques, and Ayurveda recipes .
Please send us a message to discuss payment and exchange. This will be evaluated according to length of stay, massage background and other details.

We plan on paying aside for the massages dividing the gains by percentages between the therapist and the center. the bigger part of the percentage will go to the therapist

There is a 20-25 work exchange for lodging and food. ABOUT ME*️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️
I grew up in San Juan and went to college in the States for arts and photography. Eventually I ended up in New York, like so many. Work and love conspired and I stayed in that incredible city for almost 15 years. I returned to my beloved Island in 2006. Puerto Rico was struggling through a depression and I wanted to bring back all I had learned and try to make things better here. I also yearned to connect again with the wisdom of the land, the warmth and humor of its iconic people. After working for 5 years in the movie industry as well as designing restaurants I was ready to take a leap and create something in the spirit of the times. A fledgling culture of local, sustainable businesses were beginning to take root, an exciting development for our tough little Island, and I wanted to be part of that. I turned my home into a small guest house. My house is a typical Puerto Rican home decorated with family furniture and photos. It has a communal vegetarian kitchen and provides services such as yoga, workshops, off the beaten path tours, and communal dinners with local chefs that resource all their supplies from our farms. In 2012, this place was officially designated as a hotel: in San Juan, our capital city. We continue to thrive, supporting the growth of our neighborhood and its local businesses, and supporting the community.

As some of you know, Puerto Rico is going through a very hard time, after having been turned upside down by the biggest hurricane in modern history. Hurricane Maria left the Island absolutely destroyed, and without power for months. Now, nearly a year later, Puerto Rico is rebounding due to the spirit of its people and to the help of countless organizations and individuals. The recovery has been an empowering process as it has provoked a growing awareness of the need for greater self-reliance. People are committing to a better life, one that involves more farming, renewable energy, and community engagement. New ideas and experiments are everywhere. More of us are turning inwards and looking at this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform our Island, live more sustainability, and invest in our people. It is exciting to see the Island rising strong, moving toward a brighter future. It is an amazing time in the life of Puerto Rico. I would like to bring to the Island of Vieques some of the same magic I have been able to create in San Juan , with even more sustainability given the space I have to farm and create. I hope you can join me!

Finca Victoria in Vieques, is part of the new movement toward more farming, renewable energy, low impact living, and community engagement. A fully sustainable farmhouse-style hotel, Finca Victoria was designed and runs using the principles of permaculture.

    Thank you!

It will be our pleasure to share this piece of heaven with you in exchange of your help us run the guest house and continue rebuilding the gardens and farm
We have in our team of workers a knowledgeable arborist and gardener name Charles Cole and an experience permaculture designer Audry Pullen. If you come to work on the gardens we assure you a great learning and collaborating experience
We also have a great team of carpenters, such as Sebastian Claudio and Cristian Ortiz who have constructed hotels and restaurants in Puerto Rico as well as worked as art director in mayor Hollywood movies. There team will help you evolve your skills in these areas.
I am a well established Interior designer and I have led many groups into building sets for movies, restaurants and I have built already 3 guesthouses. I am known to be very resourceful and to do things in a different way. I am always happy to listen to other creatives in my team and integrate there ideas and learn from them as well.

I have been studing Ayurveda and I am planning on making all the products in the farm, such as biodegradable shampoos and beauty products provided as toiletries. I am happy to also share all I have learned and I look forward in learning from you, your travels and all the knowledge you bring with you.

The island offers an unusual paradise for nature lovers, with almost no sound or light pollution. The Milky Way is visible at night and the bio-luminescent bay is considered by many the best in the world. There are a handful of restaurants, grocery stores, and galleries. If you are someone who thrives in a bustling city, this is probably not the place for you. If you adore nature and like the idea of a quiet, simple retreat where you won't see a single traffic light or billboard, Vieques is just your speed. Finally, you must like dogs as I'll often be around with my gentle giant Maga (a labrador mix) and a recent addition to the pack, a small and vibrant 3 legged dog called Venus....Goddess of beauty and love, a baby golden retriever mix called Lotus and a local Vieques chic : Botas

The land is two and a half acres on top of a hill with a beautiful view of the varied landscape all the way to the sea.

Each person that comes to collaborate with us will have a private sleeping area with a comfortable bed, and good ventilation camping tent. The tents are set on a high deck overlooking the ocean. The nights are cool and breezy and the view is spectacular. The bath rooms are communal, and the showers are covered and private but outdoors, which creates a beautiful experience. Depending on the length of time your stay and how many helpers we have at the time will be the accommodation offered. We plan to have a house off site for the collaborators by December.
According to the work you come to do we can offer accommodations in the house as well.

We will provide fresh linen and towels.
Breakfast and lunch is included for the volunteers. Please know that everyone is responsible for their dinners.
We have built a small outdoor kitchen near the tents for volunteers to keep their own food.
We need to maintain this clean as it is outdoors.

The tent areas are located in the same land as the hotel. We want everyone to have a great time but we do expect good behavior, and respect for the space. there will be quiet hours so if anyone wants to go to bed early we can assure a restful night.

For those that want to explore the night life you will need to go into town

Also, there will be a vehicle in the farm that can be use for daily errands and sight seeing. The priority of this vehicle is for work, but we do make time to free it for exploration and tours. The car is managed by our floor manager, and we entice everyone to coordinate together their explorations to make the best use of the car. The car is only used during the day.

There are other workers with cars that are always happy to share rides.
