Welcome to our farm. We run two small operations: A farm, and a non-profit dedicated to Sustainable Disaster Relief.
We are extremely excited that Puerto Rico's slowly moving forward with re-opening the country. With that said we here on the farm have also made the decision to start welcoming volunteers to help us start gearing up for our next building phase on our Earthship hurricane resistant domes which is scheduled for February 15-27th ( if your interested in participating please see )
Our farm is located on our family's property on the west side of the island in beautiful Aguada, and is comprised of a tropical hurricane resistant Earthship community center ( still under construction) , a honey bee 🐝 rescue business, a goat sanctuary, some happy chickens. We raise rabbits, and lots of ever-growing foods ; over 300 pineapple plants, over 500 bananas , breadfruit (pana) trees, ginger, and lots of root vegetables like malanga and yautia. If there are any know allergies to Bees we ask that you please refrain from participating.
In addition to growing lots of local fruits and vegetables, we tend to our animals (we also have dogs and cats) and compost heaps. It is also not uncommon for you to witness the birth of some of our animals. Because of our location in the Caribbean tropics, plants and wildlife grow incredibly quickly and there is always lots of trimming and gardening to be done here. We have all the tools you will need to perform these tasks.
We may ask you to assist in repairs/projects and maintenance on / around our eco-structures, perform heaving lifting (up to 50 lbs+), Mostly farm maintenance ( cleaning weeds and planting) Please expect to work in hot humid conditions , and know that this job is not for volunteers who are looking for a vacation (though, feel free to explore the stunning and relaxing aspects of PR with us or on your free time). The climate is quite hot in the summer months, and hot but mild in the "winter" months. Expect to sweat! We have plenty of cool, fresh water from our well on the farm to keep you hydrated.
We work with all kinds of sustainable concepts on our farm in conjunction with our Earthship project. For example, our farm showcases our solar electric systems and rain water catchment . We want to break out into the "zero-waste" sector, as well! Got any ideas?
We are happy to feed you home-cooked Puerto Rican meals , ONCE a day including foods we grow here on our property. You may experience dishes like: arroz con gandules, escabeche de guineos con mollejas, tostones, y mucho mas! We typically eat root vegetables, rice, and beans, but some meat may also be provided. We love sharing so please do contribute to our family meals if you can!
We are early risers, and need morning people ! our day begins promptly around 6;30 am to milk the goats and feed the animals, we don't expect our volunteers to start that early, but we definitely appreciate early birds. For our extended family members ( yes you ) we ask that the day begins at 9am and you give us 5 hours of your valuable time.
We have open house on Saturdays and have visitors between 9am -2pm, we may ask for help with tours and checking the areas for public safety. We host large events annually as well, you might be lucky enough to be a part of one, where we can have upwards of 200 people. Prepping for events this size can be a challenge as you can imagine.
We speak fluent Spanish and English here. Feel free to communicate to us in either language at your preference.
We are so excited to meet you and welcome you to our family.

Volunteers on our farm will learn about solar energy, stormwater management, erosion prevention, water catchment/filtration, raising animals by grazing and other natural techniques, Earthship design principles, apiary development, eco-construction, composting and vermiculture, and so much more!
Our farm is 100% Boricua and we are proud of that. You will be fully immersed in Puerto Rican culture through food, language, music, and dance while you stay with us. We invite you here to work, but you will have a glimpse into our daily lives (and fun) as well. We homeschool our four children (ages 15, 13, 5, and 1) we love that our children get to be surrounded by beautiful people from all over the world who have a common goal; to make the world a little better.
Our farm functions as a community center, our nonprofit is a disaster relief organization, meaning in the case of a natural disaster we are out working side by side with first responders, it also means we always need to be prepared on the farm to help our neighbors. Because of our community presence, it is essential to keep planting and growing foods !
A few essential projects that are on the list this summer to get hurricane ready are ;
Help building a metal roof for our goat cage that also serves as the home to all of our solar panels. The frame will be welded and then the panels will be replaced onto the new frame, this will help assure we won't loose both power and the roof for our goats.
We are working on building stairs and walkways throughout our property as a safety measure for visitors. We use pallets, pounded tires, and other industrially-foraged or up-cycled materials to build stairs and paths.
We are also working on erosion-prevention, as our farm is susceptible to erosion due to heavy rainfall in this area of Puerto Rico. We are located on a hill. We need people to help stabilize the land by planting strong plants that will anchor into the ground and stabilize the structure.
Finally, we are constantly accepting recycled materials from the municipality and community, such as glass bottles, plastics, and aluminum cans. We need help sorting, cleaning, and sometimes cutting these materials. We also need help brainstorming ways to use all of the materials productively (as a lot of it does get used as material for our earthship project on site).
We currently have two nearly finished domes . The domes are equipped with electricity and a running shower/sink (shared), however we cannot offer WIFI at this time. You are welcome to camp on our property and use the facilities provided. Because we are still under construction and the Earthship domes will be classrooms we cannot provide housing , you will have to provide all of your own personal gear.
Please also be aware that we cannot provide transportation for you to go to the store, beach, or anywhere else. We have a big family and only one vehicle. Sometimes we may be able to give you a ride. We may be able to arrange airport drop-offs and pick-ups if you can schedule it ahead, and we may not be the ones giving you a ride. We are happy to try to accommodate your needs . Thank you in advance!
There is a lot to do in our corner of Puerto Rico, but most notable of these is the beach. In Aguada we are near the coastlines in Aguadilla, Rincón, and Mayagüez. You are welcome to join us on outings but seating in our vehicles is limited, as we have four children to accommodate before you. If you are renting a vehicle, please feel free to explore the island in your free time. Surrounding us are beautiful surf opportunities (taken at your own risk), hiking, and local cuisines. There is so much to be seen! ****PLEASE BE ADVISED DUE TO COVID-19 Puerto Rico IS STILL EXPERIENCING STRICK LOWDOWN RESTRICTIONS***** plan accordingly thank you
