Description
Welcome to our home on 45 acres of peaceful agricultural land near Peterborough, Ontario — a beautiful part of the Kawartha Lakes region and an easy trip from Toronto.
We’re a family who loves nature, movement, animals, and meaningful connection, and we enjoy sharing our space with people from around the world. Over time, we’ve been slowly shaping this land into a place that feels alive, welcoming, and enjoyable to live in. We value the energy and perspective that guests bring into that process.
Our household is lively and full. My wife and I live here with our five energetic kids, two playful dogs, four curious cats, 14 laying hens, and one very relaxed bearded dragon. Daily life blends family routines, outdoor time, animals, shared meals, and plenty of activity. It’s not a quiet retreat, but it is a warm, grounded, and supportive place to land.
One unique part of life here is our private, fully equipped fitness and martial arts gym, which helpers are welcome to use during their stay. If you enjoy strength training, martial arts, yoga, or movement-based practices, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re interested and experienced, you’re also welcome to train with us or occasionally share what you know with the family — completely optional and always informal.
We’re drawn to simple, sustainable living and community. Over time, we’ve been planting gardens, improving trails, caring for animals, and creating spaces that support connection, creativity, and well-being. Things are still very much evolving, and we enjoy the process of learning as we go rather than following a rigid plan.
As a Workawayer, you’ll join us in everyday, hands-on activities that support family life and the land. Depending on your interests and the season, this might include:
• Gardening, planting, and general care of outdoor spaces
• Light building, repairs, or creative projects around the property
• Landscaping, trail clearing, or seasonal cleanup
• Helping with kids, animals, outdoor play, and daily family routines in a relaxed, supportive way
We’re looking for people who are kind, reliable, and self-motivated, and who enjoy being part of an active household. No special experience is required — just a good attitude, openness, and respect for shared space.
A minimum stay of about two weeks works best so everyone has time to settle in and connect, though we’re flexible for the right fit. Help is usually around 4–5 hours a day, five days a week, leaving lots of free time to explore nearby lakes, trails, fitness training, or local towns and cities.
In exchange, we offer:
• Comfortable accommodation (options may include a guest room in the house, our fully equipped motorhome, camping on the property, or an RV if you bring your own)
• Shared meals and groceries, with an emphasis on simple, home-cooked food (vegetarian/vegan friendly when possible)
• Full access to our private gym, plus sauna and cold plunge for those who enjoy wellness and recovery
• Plenty of space to enjoy nature, wildlife, forests, and open land (mosquitos included)
• Wi-Fi in main areas
This is a place for people who value connection — with nature, with movement, and with each other. If you enjoy being part of a family, helping out where needed, and sharing stories, skills, and everyday life, we’d love to hear from you.
When you write, please tell us a bit about yourself, why this feels like a good fit, and what you’re hoping to experience during your stay.

Help
Our property is always full of activity and opportunity to learn and explore. In a typical day you might:
• Help with indoor and outdoor chores like cooking, cleaning, and gardening.
• Take on a light building, repair or creative project around the property that makes our space beautiful and productive.
• Assist with light maintenance or organizing.
• Spend time caring for our dogs, cats, hens and lizard.
• Try your hand at cooking.
• Participate in (or lead) a fitness session.
There’s plenty of variety depending on your interests and the season—we keep things flexible, creative, and collaborative. In winter months the motorhome is winterized and most responsibilities will be within the home and four seasons out buildings.

Accommodation
From April through October you could stay in a fully equipped 45-foot Class A motorhome, with your own:
• King-sized bed
• Private shower and bathroom
• Full kitchen
In the winter (or if the motorhome is occupied) you will stay in a spare room in our home or one of our photography studios.
We will take every grocery shopping for the food they want a couple times per week. For those in the motorhome they will have their own kitchen and appliances to cook the meals they prefer. There will be some shared meals often around a campfire. If you like to cook, we like to eat. There are three vegetarians and four non-vegetarians in our family.
What else ...
We enjoy connecting with people from all over the world and are happy to help you practice English, share stories, and give you a real taste of Canadian rural life, with modern comforts and a lot of laughter.
