Description
In 2009, I started to create a summer artist home in Saint Vincent de Tyrosse, on the French Atlantic coast. Together with friends and family, we transformed my grandfather’s former automobile workshop into a bright, creative space and renovated the old hotel next door to make it welcoming for guests and friends.
In 2017, my companion and I moved from Germany to live and work here year-round. Through some research in the regional archives, we discovered that the house has been in our family since the French Revolution. The first owner, Jean Daraspen, used to call everything “Merveille” (Marvelous) — and that spirit still fills the place today.
I’m a graduate of the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, and my sister studied sustainable architecture in Gent. We both care deeply about creativity, nature, and the preservation of this old house and garden.
We also run a small ceramic studio and a local non-profit where I teach weekly art classes for children and adults. If you’re curious about clay, you’re welcome to have a look, join in, or give a hand with simple preparations (like helping mix clay or glazes, and preparing the studio for class). It’s a nice way to learn, share, and be part of our community activities.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We value creativity and initiative, and our philosophy is simple: people thrive when they do what they love. We encourage everyone to shape their own schedule, be independent, bring in ideas, and make things happen—with each other’s support.

Help
We’d love to welcome Workawayers who enjoy sharing daily life, helping with small home and garden projects, and being part of a creative, family-style environment.
There’s always something happening here — from preparing meals or keeping things tidy, to helping us with little improvement projects around the house. Sometimes that might mean organizing materials or restoring something small together — always in a collaborative spirit.
Because there’s a lot going on, we appreciate people who have a bit of life or work experience, are independent, tidy, and spontaneous in lending a hand when needed.
If you enjoy creativity, good food, and the slow rhythm of life in the French countryside, you’ll feel right at home here.

Our son Sol is the most best french teacher in the family because he doesn't yet speak english. He is also eager to learn some english.
Accommodation
You’ll have a private room in our family home, with access to the garden and communal kitchen. We often share meals together, especially in the evenings, and love exchanging recipes and stories. The ocean is 10 minutes away, and there are many forests, markets, and small villages to explore nearby.

What else ...
The south west atlantic coast in the region of les Landes is very beautiful and has many highlights. We often drive to the beach in Seignosse, Hossegor or Capbreton, sometimes we make bigger trips to the basque country, to Spain or for hikes in the Pyrenees.

Space for parking camper vans
We have a small garden across the street with a parking lot. It's safe and closed with a gate and has a nice cherry tree in the back. A van can be safely parked in there. There is water and electricity. For a toilet and bathroom, you have to cross the street and come inside the house.

Can possibly accept pets
If you’re staying with us in the house, bringing a pet isn’t ideal—we have a cat who’s not very keen on sharing her space. However, if you’re coming with a van and have a dog that’s comfortable staying in the garden during the day and can relax quietly in the ceramic studio, that could work well. Our son looooooves dogs and would probably be thrilled to have one around!
