Description
I'm a former traveler who has worked and travelled in different places in the world and loved the experience of getting to know places and people on my journeys. I settled in Dawson City, Yukon more than 30 years ago and started a business some years after that has become something of an institution in town. It is a small boutique inn with a pub housed in an old brothel that was moved from one end of town to the centre and renovated back to life. For the last 25 years I've been welcoming guests from around the world as well as operating a pub popular with locals and visitors.
Dawson City which is a days drive from the Arctic Circle has a vibrant arts community, incredible wilderness nearby, along with recreational activities such as mountain biking, hiking, paddling and dog sledding. Artistic, bush life, and work opportunities have drawn many to stay longer to experience northern living, the dramatic seasonal changes, the colourful characters who call this place home and some unique living experiences both on and off grid. Many of my employees started out as seasonal workers and in time made Dawson their year-round home. There is definitely a family feel here especially for those of us with family far away. We gather for holiday meals and events and sometimes travel together in winter. You will enjoy how easy it is to 'plug in' to this community with the steady stream of events and volunteer opportunities.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Looking forward to meeting working travelers and hearing about their experiences and skills learned along the way. I'm always interested in finding out about any special interests and skills that can be woven into the business and showing off the Dawson area including my off-grid home across the Yukon River. Would also like to introduce them to some of the cultural events and recreational activities in town as well as some of the colorful characters that grace our community. Dawson City is an easy place to socialize but also to find solitude and quiet. We have a Writer in residence, a Musician in residence and also an Artist in residence program throughout the year as well as a fine arts college and an arts institute. Many artists combine work or a busy social schedule with focused time to spend on their own creative projects. Working provides a place to connect with locals, and other travelers as well as organizations such as the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture, the Dawson City Music Festival, and the Dawson City Film Festival all of which have close ties to the business.

Help
I am seeking a Workawayer who can legally work in Canada to help with housekeeping. As it's a small place the tasks are mostly cleaning rooms (there are 9 in all), public areas, but includes a variety of other tasks such as some front desk duties, laundry, picking up supplies, helping with recycling. There may also be some light maintenance such as painting or mowing the lawn. Housing in town is provided as well as an in town bike. The wage is $18 - $20/ hour.

Accommodation
It has a two bedroom staff house located a 5 minute bike ride away from the business. One room may be occupied by Lili, my main housekeeper though she will be leaving at the end of September. The available room is equipped with a double bed and all bedding and towels. There is a fully functional kitchen and there are 2 grocery stores in town within easy walking distance to buy food. Parking is also available.

What else ...
Besides hiking, biking, and paddling there are free recreation programs such as drop in soccer, volleyball, badminton, disc golf, as well as a gym (passes available for $40 /month), a new spa in town which is an exciting addition to the town's offerings, and several organizations that would enjoy some volunteer help such as the Thrift Store, the Animal Shelter or the volunteer ambulance service. For artists there is a myriad of offerings such as taking courses & workshops, or teaching.
