    Description

We are an Irish couple that have moved to an apartment in Rauland, Vinje, Norway with our joyful 2-year old boy and we’re looking for some help! My name is Michelle and I am married to Declan. Declan runs different music and arts festivals and events, and I work in a department of traditional arts in a university, currently researching a very old Irish vocal practice and its benefits for our health and wellbeing. We are a relaxed, quiet and easygoing family - Declan doesn't drink, and since having a baby I don't drink much nowadays! We love music, arts, history, yoga and good food. We are looking for a happy, flexible, independent non-smoking individual to come stay with us and help with day-to-day living. Someone who likes cleaning and gets satisfaction from it (don't worry, they are normal cleaning jobs!), someone who likes cooking, being around a toddler and is willing to play with our fun and active child is preferable. We would prefer if our workaways were over 23 but we are open to younger workaways. We also have a preference for those who have lived away from home and are interested in exploring the area. Thank you!

Our apartment is central - a 15 minute walk from the village (with local swimming pool and well-known Lega cafe) and 15 minute walk from the university. Rauland is a popular ski destination - both cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. There are cross-country tracks near the house and there is a ski bus that travels to the slopes. If you would like, there is an opportunity to rent skis from the ski centres.
Rauland is located along the Hardangervidda, a national park. Rauland is close to the UNESCO World Heritage town Rjukan, a great destinations for a visit. For some more information see: visitrauland website
Haukeliespressen bus NW180 goes from Oslo to Åmot Vinje Kro. Åmot is a 20 minute drive from Rauland. There are connecting local buses from Åmot to Rauland.

    Help

As we both work, we will need help cleaning, preparing meals and babysitting Liam a little (that’s the fun job! 😃 ) - 4 to 4 and a half hours a day, 5 days a week. Meals provided. These hours will mainly take place in the evenings (from about 15:00 or 15:30). If you are good at organising and working out how to make spaces more beautiful or practical we welcome that!

We are looking for well-travelled workaways that can stay 2 or 3 weeks or more. (From January 14th)
Declan is working at a festival in Glasgow at this time and is then on tour. By January, I will be heavily pregnant! So help around the house and company would be great then!
We encourage you to get out and explore this beautiful area. We would like you to enjoy your time here as much as we enjoy having you.

Rauland is a beautiful small village set in the mountains and beside the stunning lake Totak. It is known for its excellent hiking and skiing. A short walk from the apartment you can find cross country ski tracks. Also a short walk away you can get the ski bus to the ski centres if downhill skiing or snowboarding is your thing (there is a possibility to rent ski equipment locally). As your work hours are mostly in the evening you are free to go skiing day times if you like.

Rauland is also known for its idyllic traditional log cabins, rose maling design on the cabins, crafts and hardanger fiddle traditions. You can wander and learn about these traditions in the local museums and university department. The Reindeer centre nearby is also worth a visit if you would like to learn about reindeers :)
And we can share some of this knowledge about local traditions and Irish traditions if you like!
