We are an international couple in our 30s. Chaplin (35, Australian) is an avid surfer and will show you the best spots, if he's not working in the garden (with you!). Carolien (31, Dutch) likes surfing too but only if the conditions are perfect, otherwise she likes to hang out with the animals on the farm, (international and local) friends in the area or you'll find her working in the garden or on her computer (yep, we still have to work too) as she's doing Online Marketing for several businesses. Last year we bought the Lemon Farm even though we knew (know) nothing about Lemons and did not speak any Portuguese.... And we're LOVING IT!! We've got a Portuguese Garden help called Antonio so we can now hold a proper conversation in Portuguese as long as it's about vegetables ;-) and in the meantime we're just having fun and trying out (new) things on our little piece of paradise. We're both open minded but hard workers and we hope to attract like minded people. We'd love it if you're not afraid to get your hands dirty (of soil that is!) or if you can contribute to our building plans, and looking for a nice rural place close to the sea with great little villages to explore.
Oh, we speak English, Dutch, Spanish, German and.. a little Portuguese :-)
Free accommodation, free (seasonal) fruit & veggies and 2 world class surf breaks (Excellent opportunity for ocean lovers!) around the corner. If you always wanted to learn to surf there is a surf school just a few minutes away. Oh and the Portuguese sun & culture come for free too ;-) 5 mins. from the beach, 10 mins. from a cool town called Ericeira. 35 mins. from Lisbon.
Help us maintaining a happy and healthy (Lemon) farm. We need help with the lemons ( growing/treating/harvesting/selling ) but also assistance on our other fruits, flowers & veggies. It's a working farm so there is always something to do in terms of general gardening.
We are also doing some renovations, so if you're a handyman, architect, electrician or anyone who has experience with renovating (old) houses..please apply!! :-)
We are always looking for people who have experience with animals. We have here a small zoo with 2 goats, ducks, chickens and a horse.
I should probably point out that we prefer guys to apply because it's all quite technical and/or physical labour. However couples are welcome too. And so are pets.
English, Dutch (both native), Spanish (fluent), German (good) and a little Portuguese
Decent sized Private bedroom with choice of single/double/twin bed(s) (depending if you're coming alone, with a friend or as a couple) in a separate flat with a kitchenette, bathroom and a lounge space. Fibreglass WiFi. You can take some fruit & veggies off the land to cook your own meals, but will have to supplement your own meals with extra food from the shop. And of course, weather permitting, we'll have the occasional BBQ! We're friends with wine farmers so you can get cheap wine here too. And make your own limoncello if you like ;-) Water is drinkable from the tap and the shower is hot. Plenty of space to park your car or store your surfboard. We live in a separate house and have another little guesthouse on property for our friends and family. The place is about 2 acres in total and consists for +- 6500m2 of farmland
Please bear in mind that although we are very social people and you'll see a lot of us, you're living arrangements will be a separate accommodation and you'll have to look after/entertain yourself for a lot of the time as well :-)
Surrounded by a stunning nature, Ericeira is ideal for outdoor sports. Considered World Surfing Reserve since 2011, Ericeira offers the best conditions for surf from beginners to advanced.
No surfer? No problem! You can go Mountain Biking, Stand Up Paddle, Hiking or Cycling (on regular or E bike) - all good options to fully explore the beautiful landscape from the coastline onto the hills. Also, plenty of yoga studios in the area.
Ericeira is a fisherman's village, surrounded by the most beautiful beaches where surfers find some of Europe’s most famous waves. The centre of the village is “pedestrians only” and reaches out to all corners of Ericeira. Wander around on the typical Portuguese "Calçada" from the port to the south or north ends of the village. People loving food, wine and seafood will be enchanted in Ericeira. The nights are vibrant and people like to go out on the small streets to see live bands playing traditional Portuguese music.
We are situated by the sea and a 5 min. drive from the center of Ericeira. It takes 2 minutes to get to Ribeira de ilhas and/or Coxos beach, both classified World Surfing Reserve breaks. Lisbon is a 35 min drive. A bus to/from Lisbon costs €5 and you can find beer & coffee for under €1. Even though it's becoming more and more a tourist town, costs of living and social services are still pretty low.
