    Description

Hi, Karen and I are a retired couple living in South West France. We live in a small town which is situated within the beautiful Parc Naturel Régional Périgord in the Limousin. Our house and grounds are becoming increasingly hard for us to maintain and as Spring approaches we are looking for some help in clearing up after the winter and preparing the garden and outside areas for the summer. We do have a gite but no paying guests would be staying with us during your visit, you would be occupying the sole property, and no work with paying guests would be required.

Nestled in the heart of Rochechouart, our house has fantastic views over the adjacent valley. It is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Haute-Vienne countryside. The town centre, parts of which are medieval, is a few minutes stroll away with eateries, shops, cafes and a beautiful chateau which houses a museum of modern art.

We have a lovely one bedroom well appointed gite in which guests would be accommodated and bicycles are available for those that wish to explore. We need help with tasks such as opening and cleaning our pool, pressure washing the terraces, general gardening and other light maintenance tasks.

Karen and I love to meet new people and enjoy sharing meals, Karen loves to cook, and learning about different cultures and experiences.

We are situated in the beautiful Limousin, within which there are endless lakes and rivers where you can sail, canoe, kayak and fish. There are two regional natural parks; the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin, within which we are situated, and the Parc Naturel Régional de Millevaches en Limousin where you can lose yourself hiking or mountain biking. With such a small population and so much open land, the opportunity for outdoors sport and leisure is wonderful.

Every few kilometres there’s a beautiful view to drink in: medieval hilltop villages, imposing châteaux, steep valleys, high cliffs and promontories, gorgeous gorges and luscious lakes. The Limousin is truly a paradise for outdoor pursuits.

  • Help

    Help

The help we need is what we used to be able to do ourselves but which is now becoming harder as we get older. I am 74 and Karen is 64. I would describe the tasks required as general cleaning, gardening and light maintenance tasks.

The pool needs to be opened up, cleared of the winter debris and the terraces around the area pressure washed. Help will be required in the garden, lawn mowing, weeding and planting for example, plus light maintenance tasks such as painting or window cleaning.

Having come to France with only school boy French, I enjoyed learning the language and being able to integrate with the local community. I'm still learning and am happy to help anyone who wishes to learn the basics.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Rochechouart is a town of 4,500 people. There is no railway station but there is a regular bus service to St.Junien and Chabanais from where you can connect to the national rail network via Limoges or Angouleme. The nearest airport is Limoges which is a 30 minute drive away and is served by low cost airlines from most regional UK airports We would provide transport to and from the airport.
