    Description

We are a Dutch couple who moved to Norway in 2013.
We have a beautiful farm at 300 meters above sea-level. The farm is situated in its own valley at the foot of the highest mountain on Tysnes. It consists of 150 acres of which 50 acres of grassland. There is a lake on the property for swimming and fishing and the farm is surrounded by forests and mountains.
Tysnes is an island with 3000 inhabitants but this amount easily doubles in the summer months. Being very close to Bergen and situated in the Hardangerfjord, Tysnes is a popular tourist place in the summer.
After work there is plenty of stunning nature and wilderness to explore and hikes directly from the farm, but we are also relatively close to other attractions like glaciers, fjords and cities. A car would be considered a necessity to get around

The main focus of the farm is the production of cheese. Our cheese is sold in supermarkets all over Norway. The work that needs to be done in the cheesery entails everything from making cheese, to cleaning, and packing.
During the summer months we have a farm shop/restaurant where we sell products from the farm. ( you can find pictures and stories on facebook) This, however, is only in the summer months and the jobs we offer are mainly for the cheesery.

We no longer have milking livestock on the farm as all the milk for the cheese production comes from other farms. Only animals, for the moment, are 1 dog, two cats and some chickens and peacocks.

Besides the main farmhouse, in which we live, we have a cabin on the farm with all utilities (kitchen, bathroom, living, bedroom, wifi). This is available for the people who come and work.
We have two people working full time in the cheesery. And are now looking for two people (a couple, or friends) to help out in the cheesery. (please only apply if this is the case, we do not wish to combine two single people ourselves) You will learn how to make cheese, how to store/take care of cheese, and will help packing and selling the cheese.
The minimum stay is three months, in order to get the routines of cheese making, but we need people at least until April ‘25 and maybe after, so if all goes well, a longer stay is welcome. Each person would be working 24 hours a week. Working hours are flexible and discussed per week as they are depending on milk deliveries and other logistics. We will pay the minimum wage expected for this kind of work. Please contact us for more details.
Experience of cheese making is not necessary but you have to be able to work hygienically, precise and have some enthusiasm for cheese or food in general.

We offer: a job in a relaxed team environment, a comfortable home, farm life experience, mixing of cultures (currently 5 different nationalities on the farm) and plenty of opportunity to learn new skills.

We only accept workawayers over 21 years old, and from European (Schengen) countries because of easy work permits.
We look for independent people who don't mind living a little isolated (hence the two people we want) but in a beautiful location. And can handle Norwegian winter and coastal climate.

*PLEASE check our calendar to see if we need people, before you apply. It is up to date.

Are you interested or have questions, please contact us. We are looking forward to 'meeting' you and see if there could be a match:)
    Nynke and Jasper.

We are an international team that works closely together and have our lunch breaks together. First of all you will learn how to make cheese!
As we are not Norwegian you will not tumble into a traditional Norwegian household, but the setting is definitely Norwegian and there is plenty of opportunity to explore the Norwegian countryside and getting to know some locals. Bergen city is pretty close (also by public transport) if you feel the need for some city vibes like museums or cinema.
