    Description

Our community provides a home for a small number of people with intellectual disability. We are located on a beautiful five acre lifestyle property in Lower Hutt. We are a small intentional community with diverse members, supporting and challenging each other to thrive. We are still in our pioneering stage, and largely family driven. There are opportunities to step in and make a real impact on shaping the growth of this special place.

Our main focus is supporting a small number of community members with an intellectual disability to participate meaningfully in daily life in their home and on the land. ( This involves creating a vibrant culture of social connection, music, art, land engagement, cooking etc) We are passionate about operating from a model of enablement and empowerment.

For interns specifically interested in the field of disability, we provide a unique model in New Zealand. As a grass-roots, family led initiative it sits outside of the usual large government funded care-models. You have the opportunity to:
-Create close and meaningful relationships with people with, and without disabilities.
-Experiences levels of collective leadership that are practiced within the organisation.
-Contribute to the co-creation of this pioneering initiative
    -Learn about our enablement ethos.

For those interested in volunteering with a focus on contributing to the sustainable development of our land, we provide the chance to dig into the soil and have a play with papatuanuku! You will be able to use your skills and creativity to help us fulfill our roles as kaitiaki (stewards) of this land. We seek to develop the property in sustainable, organic, life enhancing ways, providing kai and sustenance not only for ourselves but for the native wild-life as well!

    Help

Over summer we would love to host a couple of workerwayers who are keen to get their hands dirty and help us produce lots of yummy kai (food) from our gardens! Ideally it would be great to have volunteers who have some experience in gardening/permaculture - who are happy to be quite independent in digging into projects! We are situated close to Petone and Wellington - if you have your own transport it's a wonderful base to explore and experience the area.
If you happen to be handy with a hammer (any carpentry skills - there would be opportunities for projects in that vein also! )
