    Description

Greetings from Guyana, South America! My name is Diane, my husband is Joseph and our daughter is Jodi. We live at an Earth Farm in the forest, about an hour away from the capital city Georgetown.

The Earth Farm is a 10 acre ecological safe space completely off Grid; our water comes from the rain and our electricity from the sun.
We are a consciously created earth based community and transformational living and learning space inspired by the path of freedom and a love for the natural world.
Our farm is being built guided by the principles of permaculture.
Our buildings employ a variety of ecologically, locally sourced building materials and are constructed using sandbags, thin film cement and aircrete.
Our farm is wonderful to visit and volunteer with; an optimal venue to gather people around activities and nature as a way to bring about social change.
Our vision include the creation of a food forest, to this end we have planted over 50 fruit trees in the forest.

The Earth Farm is a space we wish to dedicate to the unfolding and understanding of our spiritual nature. We believe that much of the world's problems could dissolve if only we were brought up focusing on our inner world and essential inner essence instead of all that's outside us. To achieve this we believe that children, in addition to basic academics must also focus on their inner world, be brought up to understand that we are one and the same as nature and must connect with and follow their internal compass and passions instead of sitting in a walled classroom piled high with information they have no interest in.
We extend a hand to the innumerable pioneering communities with similar visions who are ready to plant the seeds of a new awakened ecological civilization.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our small community comprise a variety of skills and interests. Between us we have an expert on many areas of building using wood, cement, sandbags, and aircrete. A wood carver, a yoga enthusiast, fitness trainer, nutritionist, meditation teacher, permaculturist, pharmacist, Waldorf trained teacher, spiritual life coach, energy medicine practitioner. Did we miss anything? :) So between us there's much we can learn from each other.

The bauxite mining town of Linden is about 30 minutes away by bus. The Soesdyke Junction is 20 minutes away by car and is a busy section. We would be happy to take you to the main highway to get a car or bus if you would like to venture there.

Because we live in the forest we are sort of isolated. There are no restaurants, shopping centres or cafes close by.
Because of this it is important that the volunteer enjoy their own company and does not mind solitude in the forest.

Dear reader, we would love to welcome anyone who is inspired by what we hope to achieve at the Earth Farm.
We are particularly interested in people who are artistic, can draw and paint. Persons who possess building; carpentry and mason skills, gardening and permaculture farming knowledge.

We are opening up parts of the forest to plant a food forest, so this involves clearing and under brushing the forest.
We are dedicated to building our farm using the principles of permaculture. Knowledge on composting would be great.

Maintaining our gardens and planting is also important.

We host events from time to time. Events we have hosted so far are yoga, meditation and silent retreats. Our space is also used by event organizers to host workshops. We also work along with mental help advocates as a space people can come to to reconnect with self and nature.

Persons who are great with repurposing and recycling old wood into useful items are welcomed!!

If you have knowledge on building using aircrete and other alternative methods of building - welcome!!

If you love to cook and can cook for events, that's also very much needed.

We are about an hour away from the capital and 5 minutes away from the main highway that leads to the capital or further into the interior regions of the country. You can head out to the nearest town which is Linden, about 25 minutes away. There are many creeks close by where you can go for a cooling dip. Spend time in the forest, garden. Just let us know how we can make your stay comfortable.

We are quiet people, no loud music, not into alcohol and we go to bed with the setting sun. We like to do camp fires weather permitting, get lost in our garden or planting or reading. We have a library on site. My husband is a permaculturist, I have much experience as a fitness trainer and nutritionist. We generally lead quiet lives. Our goal is self development.
The Earth Farm is a space that is booked for events that have a learning curve. We have explore the Rainforest tour for kids hosted here, walking meditation, yoga retreats. Energy medicine retreats, and some corporate retreats.
