    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You'll get to know the climate and culture, especially the culture of horse people, sheep farmers and country side people in Iceland. And the nature here is stunning. Great hiking oportunites in June-September, if you like hiking. We have cross country skis if you like to ski (in winter). There's a swimming pool with hot tub and sauna close to the farm.
It's a super fun cultural exchange, getting to know Iceland in so many ways, and having fun with us the local farmers.

Are you looking for a fun adventure in Iceland?

We're looking for helpers for various positions in various months, for various projects. So, each position starts with a short intro, and then you can see if that sounds like something for you.
    A short intro, more later:
Sheep roundups and housesitting in September 2026.
Training young horses in January-March 2026.
Cooking for a home in October 2025, or January-October 2026.
Being a guide for horse tours for tourists in April-November 2026.
Helping in the lambing season, from end of March to end of May 2026.

    More details:
    -------------------------
Position 1, sheep roundups and housesitting:
PERIOD: Starting ASAP, for all of September 2025 (not just a part of the time):

    More:
Partially with HIKING AND ROUND UP SHEEP ON BIG OPEN RANGES HERE. Also with sorting them and more. It's really fun if you are an active hiker, and love animals.
Also sometimes being COMPANY FOR A FARMER THAT IS WITH A CERTAIN HANDICAP (when his mum that lives in the same home/house is away), that is, he sometimes has epilepsy episodes. You do not need to be stressed, it's just good that just in case, if he's alone on the farm at the moment, that you can call for help/advice.
Some days can be busy with the sheep, but you have a lot of free time too, where you can just enjoy living on the farm and enjoy a hobby, and simply be there.
So, a bit of sheep work, and a bit of just enjoying life on the country side, at the same time of being backup for a kind person. It's great if you have fun cooking simple meals with him, for the two of you, when his mum is away. He also participates with cooking with you, and no worries, you don't need to be a good cook, we're just talking about something simple. Him and his mum are kind and fun, other helpers have absolutely loved staying with them.

    You need to:
-Be ready to stay for the full month, not just a part of it. It takes time to learn what it's all about.
    -Have a driving licence.
-Be in a bit good hiking shape (but not necessarily ultra much), and it is also necessary that you're used to hiking in nature (not just on flat trails).
-Preferably have experience with handling a bit big animals (sheep, cows or something similar), it's a pro but not needed, we can teach you.
-Be a good team player, friendly, kind and understanding.
-Be female, because of sharing accommodation with another female.
-Have no big dietary obstacles (not vegetarian, pescatarian or such).

Food and accommodation provided on the farm without extra charge.
Salary according to local union contracts .
    -------------------------
Position 2, working with training young horses, and with stable work in the horse stable:
PERIOD: Arriving in early January 2026, staying for at least 3 months.
If you want to stay even longer and then work with position 3, that's even better.
    It's working with Icelandic horses.

    More:
    You need to:
-Be ready to stay at least 3 months, not shorter. It takes time to learn what it's all about.
    -Be very experienced horse rider.
-Having done some work with training youngsters or having some other helpful background for that.

Position 3, being a guide on out horse tours for tourists:
Arriving in the beginning of April 2026, staying for at least 3 months (not shorter).
Or arriving later, in May or June, staying for at least 3 months (not shorter).
If you want to stay even longer, that's even better.
    It's working with Icelandic horses.

    More:
    You need to:
-Be ready to stay for at least 3 months (not shorter). It takes time to learn what it's all about.
    -Be very experienced horse rider.
-Having done some work with guiding on horse tours for tourists (or having some other helpful background for that, like guiding in horse camps taking beginners out on the trail).
-Be a good team player, friendly, kind and understanding.
-Be female, because of sharing accommodation with another female.
-Have no big dietary obstacles (not vegetarian, pescatarian or such).

From April 2026 until October 2026. Being ready to stay for at least 3 months.
With cooking dinner for a home of 5-10 people (it varies between months we're talking about).
    OR:
We need help, a cook, within the period of January to March 2026. Being ready to stay for at least 1 month.

-You'd have a private room, so both males and females are welcome.
-Have no big dietary obstacles (not vegetarian, pescatarian or such).

If you like to hike, or ride horses, there are great opportunities for that here in your free time (it's not a part of the job).

There is a disabled man taking care of them and would teach you what needs to be done, and be with you in the chores, but he can not do it alone. So, the position is partially taking care of the animals (about 80 sheep and 5 young horses) with him and his mother, and partially to be his company. Driving licence is needed. Light work load and very fun for animal lovers.

Food and accommodation provided on the farm without extra charge.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in a very rural and beautiful area, with lots of space, and arctic beauty, we're pretty close to the ocean, and breathtaking mountains.
It's very rural in Iceland, there are usually at least a couple of kilometers between different farms, and 25 km to the next villages. So, there is a lot of peace and space. A hidden pearl to escape from the high energy modern cities in other countries.
