Description
We are a couple living on a float near the mouth of Knight Inlet. We live in a float house which sits on a cedar raft and is tied to the shore of Baker Island. Land access is by boat only so land outings are limited. We try to grow as much of our kitchen herbs as we can, as well as chard, lettuce, kale and anything else that will grow well in this climate. The garden is all in wooden boxes on the floats. We have five chickens who keep us in eggs, as well as a black Labrador. We also have cabins located in a nearby inlet, which are very remote. We are seeking a couple with carpentry, cleaning and/or gardening skills to live and work with us for a month or two.

The community of Echo Bay is very small, only about 6 people live here year round. There are sometimes killer whales, humpbacks and dolphins in the area, as well as many other sea mammals. Salmon is often on the menu in the spring/summer months. You will have access to a kayak for outings away from the lodge.

Currently we are seeking two people who can help in any of the following areas: woodwork, cleaning, painting, gardening, housekeeping, chopping wood or mechanics. Due to safety reasons we are looking for a couple or two friends to share this position as it's not suitable for one person.

We have two float houses which each comfortably sleep two. There is a shared kitchen in each cabin.
What else ...
We are off the grid, most of our operation is solar powered, but we do run a generator to keep up if it's not sunny or if our demand is high. All houses are heated with wood, so you'll need to know how to start a fire. We have enjoyed having volunteer helpers for about 15 years now. The nearest town is Port McNeill, 27 miles by boat. For this reason long stays are better, as we don't travel back and forth too often and it's always weather dependent. This position is best suited to a couple or two friends due to safety reasons, we are very remote.

Hanna, in addition to being an excellent cook and being in charge of all the details, is also an extraordinary person, sensitive, fun, cultured, and very dedicated to her work, who always treats me wonderfully, concerned that I feel comfortable and happy to be there. Chris, her husband and the one who built the lodge with his own hands with great effort for many years, is in charge of taking the guests on the excursions and in the moments that I had the pleasure of spending time with him it was always with the best treatment, listening to their great anecdotes, and with a constant big smile. There is also Robin, the little boss, who at only 18 years old worked hard every day while studying, always worried about all the details, doing all her tasks excellently, demonstrating great intelligence and responsibility. The rest of the team is made up of All and Geoff for the excursions, and Carl and Rachael in maintenance, with whom it was a pleasure to share tasks and always treated me excellent. Last, and not least, is the soul of the place: Isla, or Aila as they call her, for me she was the Gordita, a black Labrador dog who is always happy, welcoming the guests and each one of us with the greatest enthusiasm and affection, I fell madly in love with her. The place is a beautiful floating paradise far from civilization, where in addition to wonderful people you will also find a lot of peace and the possibility of activities such as kayaking, swimming, listening to music or making it (there is a beautiful piano in the room), enjoying the sauna and things like that, but if what you are looking for is to party or go out after hours to meet more people then it is not the right place since it is difficult to access. I stay in a lovely private cabin and eat everyday like a king the amazing food that Hanna cooks for the guests and for everybody on the team. I leave very happy and grateful to had the privilege, honor, and great pleasure of living this experience and meeting such quality of human beings who are a great example of life. I hope to return soon, and a thousand times more, I would even travel to Canada just for that. Thank you very much, especially to Hanna, for all this and much more. I wish you nothing but the best and I send you a big hug!
