Our hotel is a 10 room bed and breakfast in the center of San Jose, Costa Rica conveniently located 200 meters south, on the new pedestrian boulevard from the National Theatre/Grand Hotel/Plaza de la Cultura. Its been open since 2008, and has a small but regular customer base.
The owner and manager goes by the name Alfi. He's a charming South African man that has traveled and lived just about everywhere in the world. He speaks Swahili, French, Spanish, and English. You'll never dine with Alfi without hearing some kind of unbelievable story or event that has happened to him. In addition he's an excellent cook.
The current work available is mostly focused on increasing visibility and maintaining long term customer relationships. The immediate work available has been outlined by former workawayers. Much of it is simple, updating facebook calendars, responding to inquiries etc. For those that care to attempt it, or have experience in it work needs to be done with search engine optimization and web design. Beyond marketing anyone with hospitality experience is welcome as there is plenty to be done with regard to hotel operations. Spanish speakers are preferred as you may occasionally be left to look after the hotel, and we have a large amount of Spanish speaking guests. Exceptions will be made for those with the right work experience.
Please no drug users or heavy drinkers.
Helping with Tourists
Help with Computers / internet
Typically you'll be expected to work around 20 hours a week on a schedule based around what task it is you've decided to take up. Former work-awayers have designed a work list laying out the tasks that need to be completed for search engine optimization, guest retention, and general internet well-being.
Occasionally you'll need to do a grocery run or keep an eye on the hotel while Alfi steps out.
The current task list includes:
-Writing helpful tourism articles to be posted on our site.
-Finding new sources of inexpensive advertising
-Keeping our Facebook up to date/sending out newsletters
-Updating the events calendars
-Answering the phone if no one is around
-Working to increase our google rank.
