    Description

Hey all, we are a small regenerative ecological project started 5 years ago in the amazing hills of South West Alentejo that holds the vision of regeneration the land and its people. We wish to restore the land, be an inspiration to others and create a thriving next step for the future generations.

Me and my husband are living here and we are holding the wish of growing into a small community of about 5 people living here.

In the first 5 years so much has happened already and so many people have been contributing their love, energy and expertise.

Today we are caretaking of the land in many different ways. We maintain the two sintropical agroforest area's, the vegetable garden and the reforestation lines. We are in the proces of creating water landscape retention area's, finishing the building works on the ruïne, tyding up after two years of building work, maintaining and finishing our integrated rainwater system, planning and building for some stone work to happen on the land and much more.
We are also have quiet times so we can enjoy all what is alive and beautiful already.

We are not a business, we are a non private project and the vision is one of regenerated landscapes and peoples.
Sometimes this place is super quiet and we are little people, sometimes we have bigger groups of volunteers and friends.

This year 2025 we will have some specific periods for WorkAwayers, the first coming period is june and a bit into july.

Depending on timing and wheater conditions we will do some rougher landwork for which we are looking for people that want and can do a good amount of strong physical work.
We will be taking care of our tiny house, as in varnishing it again and we will tend to different kinds of other jobs as vegetable garden, agroforestry maintenance and more.
We will be taking care of the reforestation lines and agroforestry areas.

In the years to come we would also love to invite specifically people with pruning skills, sintropical agroforestry skills, permaculturists, a carpenter and stone-workers.

Very welcome to have a chat with if you are interested!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

If you come and join us then you'll be working on the land and have the rest of the day to spend on your own.

In your free time you can enjoy the land, go for walks, take one of our bikes and explore the two local villages at about half an hour cycling and a bit further there is the amazing Alentejo coast line, good for days on the beach, walking the cliffs, have a good fish meal, or just hanging around to enjoy the beauty there. Also the Fishermans trail is not that far from us, if you'd like to go for the weekend and have an amazing walk.

Transport wise our nearest train station is Funcheira, which is a 20 minutes drive from Retumbana Velha. The nearby village has some busses though it's good to know public transport is not nearby nor very often.
We are happy to take you with us when we go and visit a local market at times in the weekends, or at times go for a drink in the local restaurant.

Bring some of the things you want with you for your free time, for your evenings. Sometimes it can be very beautiful quiet here, with amazing star nights, when there is not many people. Sometimes it's very lovely busy when we have a bigger group. Be prepared for both possibilities.
