    Description

    Refitting a classic sailing yacht:

We, Killian and Pascal, are refitting our sailing boat. she is temporary out of the water and not sailing as she get prepared for pacific crossing. She is a Cheoy Lee 38 from 1978 and needs a bit of love as we are planning to sail her to French Polynesia in the next few years. The boat is fully equipped and ready to live on, during the refit. We will all work, eat, and sleep together on the boat. The boat is located in the area of Puerto Lindo. Puerto Lindo is a national park surrounded by mangroves, islands, and reefs with many activities to do. It’s only 2 hours away from Panama City and easy to reach.

    About Pascal:
He is a 33-year-old male from Germany and has owned the boat for more than a year already. A passionate cook and mechanical engineer, he’s happy to teach about mechanics and engines. He loves surfing, spearfishing, and all other ocean activities.

    About Killian:
He is a 32-year-old male from Germany as well, sharing the same love for the ocean as Pascal. He was a music producer for the last 12 years and is always keen to share his newest music recommendations with you. As he loves sailing, he will be an integral part of the crew for the upcoming years.

    About the project:
As we want to sail our boat to French Polynesia, some of the stuff needs to be done to make this old lady ocean-worthy. We are planning a refit for around 2–3 months starting on the 1st of November.

The following help needs to be done, which you will help with (and we will teach you):
    • Sanding and cleaning the hull
    • Fixing up the hull with epoxy before applying new antifouling
    • Changing running rigging
    • Revarnishing teak
    • Some small woodwork inside the boat, like building small shelves and other items

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As you will live with us in the boatyard, you will meet a lot of people from the boating community. It's a great chance to find people to go sailing with as well as exchange knowledge about sailing itself. As already mentioned, we love sharing our passion for sailing and all the skills involved in fixing up a boat. Maybe you plan to buy your own boat one day? We are happy to share our knowledge about the whole process of buying a boat. As we went through the whole process of buying and refitting a boat already you will be in good hands and leave your stay with us with lot of knowledge about all systems.

    Help

In general, you will help on all the tasks mentioned in the section before. It helps if you have basic skills in painting and woodworking. We are happy to share our knowledge and guide you during the refit. Of course, we are also happy to learn from you if you bring any special skills.

    Accommodation

You will stay with us on the boat and have your own bed. The boat is 38 ft long, which means space is not unlimited. Therefore, it’s important that everybody keeps the boat nice and clean and knows how to live together in tight spaces. She is fully equipped with a kitchen, fridge, seating area, and fans for ventilation. Showers and toilets are part of the marina and can be used 24/7.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We will have a dinghy available that can be used together to explore nearby islands, historical sites, and restaurants. We love snorkeling, spearfishing and exploring and are happy to have a nice beachday together on free days.

Please note that the boat is located on land and we can’t go sailing with you during refit project.
