    Description

!! We are searching for a housesitter from 1th of August to the 13th of September!!!

    Hi there!
We are a nature-loving family of four living on a spacious homestead in Upper Austria.
We are currently transforming our home into a sustainable haven based on permaculture principles, and we’d love some extra hands to help us grow.

We are Lisa and Bernhard (both 36), along with our two energetic boys (6 and 4 years old). Our extended family includes two friendly outdoor cats and a busy flock of chickens who are the heart of our composting system.

Our goal is to become increasingly self-sufficient. Over the next years, we are planning a major project: building a multifunctional passive solar greenhouse. We also intend to welcome more animals to our homestead soon and are constantly evolving our garden and systems.

    Life with the Seasons:
Spring: Our busiest time! We focus on forest chores, preparing firewood, starting the vegetable garden, and caring for our animals.
Summer: A bit more relaxed. We love spending hot days on our sailboat at Lake Attersee or going hiking and cycling in the stunning Salzkammergut mountains.
Autumn: Harvest season! We focus on gathering our fruits and vegetables and learning traditional ways to preserve them for the winter months.
Winter: A time for reflection and planning. We stay busy with indoor projects, firewood, and enjoying the local winter sports and snow.

    Our Philosophy:
We believe in involving our children in our daily work as much as possible. Since life with kids (and nature!) doesn't always go according to plan, patience, a child-friendly attitude, and flexibility are very important to us. Things might take a little longer here, but we do them with heart.
If you are looking for a place where you can learn about sustainable living while being part of a warm, active family, we would love to hear from you!

At our place, you will gain hands-on experience in authentic self-sufficiency by following the entire journey from "seed to jar" with Lisa, who will teach you how to garden organically, identify wild herbs, and preserve the harvest through traditional methods. In our fully equipped workshop and the surrounding forest, Bernhard will show you how to handle professional tools and execute various DIY projects, offering you a deep understanding of seasonal nature cycles while we communicate and learn together in either German or English.

We see hosting as a meaningful connection where we welcome you into our daily lives to share stories and laughter over home-cooked meals while practicing German or English together to bridge our cultures. As passionate foodies, we would love to taste a dish from your home country while we introduce you to our regional Austrian traditions and a sustainable lifestyle. You will be a valued part of our team, experiencing firsthand how fulfilling it is to live in harmony with nature and create something lasting together.

We are looking for a reliable and physically fit helper who truly enjoys the outdoors and isn't afraid of a challenge. While the core of your role involves independent morning routines—such as feeding the cats and chickens, checking the flock twice daily, and operating our wood-burning central heating system—we are especially looking for someone who wants to be part of our family life and our homestead’s growth.
Your morning tasks also include essential garden work, such as watering, weeding, or harvesting, depending on the season and our current needs. A very important and joyful part of your stay will be spending time with our two young boys in the afternoons. Whether it’s playing outside, exploring the garden, or being creative together, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the company of children and can engage with them while we focus on other household chores. At the same time, we have ambitious plans for the future and would love your active support with our upcoming projects. A major focus is the construction of a passive solar greenhouse, and we need a motivated helper to assist with building, site preparation, and forest work. Your help in the forest with cutting and stacking firewood is essential to our daily life. As you will be staying in a shared apartment, it is also your responsibility to keep your living space and common areas clean during your stay and to ensure the apartment is thoroughly cleaned and left in its original condition upon your departure.
We provide a checklist so you can manage these tasks independently and structure your day in a way that suits you best.

As a solo traveller you will stay in our single bed room. In this ground apartment we also rent the double bedroom and the big living room via bnb. We renovated the kitchen and the double bedroom. The bathroom and the other rooms were equiped with older furniture, but we try to keep them clean and orderly. Maybe there can sleep and life up to eigth pepole at our ground apartment.

You have to share the apartment with our guests, so its really important that you are able to keep the kitchen, toilet and bathroom clean and orderly!
You are not responsible to clean the bnb-guests rooms, but you are responsible to clean up after you and help with keeping our really big house clean and orderly.
It's also important to save water, because of our own water well - you will find tips for saving water in the bathroom.

We have two young children. We have to start our day early and we need to get ready for school, kindergarten and work - in the morning we are always busy. In the evening there is sometimes time to cook together and learn to cook and taste other meals. But you have to cook mainly for yourself. There are some greens and veggies in the garden with you also can use and eggs from our chicken - but please first let us know, what you want to use and harvesting. Our main working days on our homestead for us are friday afternoon, saturday and sometimes sunday afternoon and often after work.

Our homestead is located between the Attersee and Traunsee. At the "gate to the Salzkammergut". This region is known for the beautiful mountains and lakes. Also famous places like Hallstatt or Salzburg are close.
You can reach a bus station (Rutzenmoos Hinterbuch B145) maybe in 1,2km. Very hour there are buses to Gmunden or Vöcklabruck. Here you can change to train.
On the same way to the bus station there is a gas station, were you can buy around the clock grocerys.
It's possible to share our bikes with you - so you can reach the beautiful places in a shorter time.
We're sure that everybody will find a occupation in our beautiful region. From A(ttersee) to Z(oo) everything is possible. Just talk to us we can give you insider tipps. If you are interested in hiking - Lisa nearly climbed every mountain in the Salzkammergut :-).
