    Christmas/New Year in coastal Auckland

Hi there, I'm Sarah, a 42 year old Kiwi based in Auckland, New Zealand. I love to travel, having been to 45 countries so far! Nearly four years ago now I put down roots and purchased my home in Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland.

I've travelled extensively around NZ and I'd love to help you plan your trip while you're here. Auckland has lots of great beaches, hikes, cafes and activities and is a great hub for accessing other parts of NZ. I live in West Auckland, not too far from the famous West Coast beaches with entirely black sand.

I'd love to welcome a fellow traveller into my home while I'm overseas travelling in Sri Lanka and visiting family in Thailand over Xmas/New Year (19 Dec - 9 Jan, but may be shorter from 27 Dec if a family member ends up staying for a week). You'd be looking after my three-legged cat and keeping my plants happy but they don't need someone there every night over that period, leaving you free to explore or have a short one or two night trips away too.

I live in a two-bedroom house with one bathroom and a little garden. I'm close to parks, harbourside walks, cafes and other shops. House bills are covered (internet, power, water) but food costs would be your responsibility. The room is well set up as an office space for any digital nomads too!

I'd love to connect with a traveller and hopefully I can return the favour for them in their home country one day. Looking for someone respectful who loves animals, ideally have had a cat before and tolerant of their mischievousness!

I've been lucky enough to have welcomed three house sitters from workaway previously, a couple most recently and Kate, who house sat twice. Kate is no longer on workaway as she's returned home to Scotland but she was kind enough to provide me with a review and is happy to chat to anyone who wants more info.

    Kate's review:

I stayed at Sarah's for around 3 weeks over Christmas / New Years to house-sit with Kitty the cat last year. Kitty runs herself and is a sweetie, just takes a little time to introduce yourself to her like any cat but she does love company and it does feel like a little friendship living with her for a while. We had many sunny afternoons chilling on the beanbags together. I feel sad to leave her!

Sarah was great as a host, very welcoming and easy to talk to. Sarah was super clear with communication and plenty info about the house/area so I didn't feel adrift being in the house by myself. I had only recently arrived to NZ when first meeting Sarah and she gave invaluable help to a new arrival and once I left Auckland, it was great to have somebody local to message too.

Te Atatu Peninsula is a great little neighbourhood, feels more like a little town with amenities you need without the city noise/bustle. There's some lovely walks by the waterfront.

I stayed at Sarah's a second time before leaving NZ for home and it was a lovely easygoing stay with Kitty that time also. If you get the opportunity to stay at Sarah's, I definitely recommend it, staying with Kitty has been a highlight of my time in NZ for sure!
