Description
About Us and Our Farm
We are Raul (38) and Ylva (30), living together on a small, idyllic farm in Eidsberg, Indre Østfold, southeastern Norway. Raul grew up in Oslo and found his way here after the opportunity to buy his dream place. Ylva joined him, and together we are building a life we truly love. Living sustainably and as self-sufficiently as possible is important to us, and this influences everything we do on the farm.
Our home is shared with two dogs, Alvin and Kira, and a farm cat named Apu. We both love making things with our hands, so our days are filled with a variety of projects—from woodworking and car repairs to gardening and small creative tasks.
This is not a business.
Our farm is a personal project, not a commercial enterprise. All activities are about learning, sharing, and participating in everyday farm life, rather than producing for profit.
Volunteering with Us
As a volunteer, you are welcome to take part in daily life on the farm. Tasks are shared and adapted to your interests and experience level. Typical activities may include:
Gardening and learning about permaculture principles
Light maintenance and painting
Organizing spaces in the barn and around the property
Creative and practical small-scale projects
Helping with daily routines and general upkeep
We sometimes work on bigger ideas or long-term projects, and volunteers are welcome to observe, learn, and participate in lighter tasks where appropriate. The focus is always on learning, sharing experiences, and community participation.
We often have friends and like-minded people visiting, and we love meeting new people. By helping us build our dream, you’ll gain useful skills, make new friends, and experience farm life in a welcoming, relaxed environment.
The Buildings
Main house: Our home, with a spare bedroom, two bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen. Recently renovated kitchen and upstairs bathroom.
Barn: Garage and woodworking shop. Plenty of space upstairs for dining, music, and gatherings.
Brewery house: Small, old building with a wood-burning stove, ideal for accommodation in late spring, summer, and early fall. Needs some work.
Stabburet: Traditional farmhouse, mostly used for storage, can be used for overnight stays in summer.
Hen house: Being restored after a predator incident before we get new chickens.
Additional garage: Woodshed and storage.
Location
Heia, Eidsberg is about 1.5 hours from Oslo. The train station is a 10-minute walk with direct connections to Oslo. Sweden is 30–45 minutes’ drive away (Töckfors), and the nearest towns for groceries and supplies are Mysen and Rakkestad.
