Description
Hi, I am Anke. My cortijo is nestled in Los Tablones, near Órgiva. I enjoy a laid-back lifestyle here on a 3000m² plot of land—not too large, but just the right size. I share this space with my two dogs, Poppy and Wolseley.
I’ve lived in Belgium, Thailand, and the UK before finally settling here in the Alpujarras, drawn by its natural beauty and peaceful charm. I’m a teacher by trade, but I’ve explored a variety of paths, from scuba diving to clowning. I consider myself down-to-earth and easygoing, though I also appreciate having some time and space to myself now and then.
The accommodation I offer is new, clean, and tidy, and the surroundings are breathtaking. Ideal for a couple or two good friends. In return I would love some help with the upkeep of the land, the trees, watering, and i will be happy to share my knowledge with those that are interested. I can for example teach you about the 1000 year old acequia system that gives life to my land.
While I live just 10 minutes by car from Órgiva (or about a 45-minute walk), having your own transport would be ideal. If you’re looking for a meaningful yet relaxed experience, I’d love to welcome you to my little corner of Andalusia—a perfect balance of connection, simplicity, and rural tranquility. -or I am sure i can find you a party/fiesta somewhere if you prefer that.Types of help and learning opportunities

At home it’s just me and my two dogs, Poppy and Wolseley, but there’s a vibrant community waiting to be discovered nearby. Up the river, you’ll find a lively scene offering a variety of activities such as yoga, rastros (flea markets), artisan markets, drumming and dancing, parties, women’s circles, and crafts. It’s a wonderful place to connect with people, and experience the unique cultural heartbeat of this region. And then come back to the peace and tranquillity of the land.
As for me, I’ve traveled extensively before settling here. I’m happy to share stories and experiences from these diverse cultures and, of course, teach you about rural Andalusian life, including the traditional acequia irrigation system, land maintenance skills, and sustainable living practices.
By hosting people from different cultures, I hope to continue learning about the world through your experiences and perspectives. It’s always fascinating to exchange ideas, learn about other ways of life, and create connections that make the world feel smaller and more interconnected.
Please note I very much value my own privacy as well, and have a limited social battery.Help
Tasks include cutting branches, strimming, woodchipping, pulling weeds, planting, watering, soil rejuvenation, picking oranges, figs or olives, pruning, maintaining acequia waterways, maintaining the trees and plants and possibly some digging as needed. The task is roughish but straightforward, and anyone can do it. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by a stunning natural setting.
If you’re interested, I can also teach you how to water the land using the traditional acequia irrigation system.
Creating & maintaining new acequia waterways, and maintaining the trees and plants, which in turn will encourage wildlife to flourish in the area, retain water and protect the soil, and create a microclimate in preparation of hotter and dryer summers to come.Languages

You’ll find your accomodation tucked away behind my cortijo, a newly constructed 3 by 6m cabin. It has a comfy double bed, shower, toilet, air-con, wifi, a small kitchen. It has it’s own terras overlooking the pool and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The pool is open from mid spring until early autumn.
I will fill your fridge with fresh and local produce, enough for a week of breakfast + snacks, also you can help yourself to whatever grows on the land at the time : oranges, lemons, figs, pomegranates, almonds, olives, tangerines, grapes, avocado’s, walnuts,....
Assuming you're a couple or two friends, I'd like 2 hours of your time/day, but timings are flexible, if you want to split them over 3 days or a whole week, all fine by me, whatever works for you I am grateful for. What else ...
