Description
Barb and Lisa live on a 5 acre permaculture farm on Salt Spring Island off the coast of British Columbia. It is a tourist destination Island with a population of approx 10,000. Our farm is named after the many ravens in the area. We also have some resident owls! We have 27 lovely dogs that love to help in the garden and chickens that give us fresh eggs daily. We are tucked away in Cranberry Valley between 3 Mountains (that offer great hiking opportunities). The property has vegetable and perennial gardens, a small orchard, berry patches, as well as a forested area. This is a hobby farm for us and we are enjoying learning about and practicing permaculture principles. We are a 7 minute drive to the main small town on the Island Ganges town.

We are new to farming ourselves , but love getting our hands into the earth and experiment with permaculture and organic farming practices. Barb is an amazing cook and Lisa loves to be out in the garden. We love big family meals with lots of friends - old and new - at the table. We also love to play games and have many croquet tournaments when weather allows!
Help
We are working at restoring and developing our permaculture farm. There is lots to do in the vegetable and ornamental garden areas including weeding, pruning, planting, mowing, watering, expanding irrigation systems, and developing new garden beds. We are also working at creating forest paths on our 5 acre property. Creating a small pond/water feature is also on the list for 2024/2025. And we dream about adding art installations on the land. Other tasks could include some wood chopping, help with building simple structures, caring for the chickens and occasional dog care (we have 3 lovely dogs). Carpentry skills would be very welcome although not necessary. Artistic talents also greatly appreciated.

In warm weather we have a tent platform set up for a forested “glamping experience” - with a canvas tent, mattress and outhouse. Meals will be provided in the house and and indoor shower is also available. A bedroom in the house is available during the colder seasons. We are a strict no smoking home and property.
What else ...
Salt Spring Island is situated between the mainland of British Columbia and Vancouver Island. We are one of the largest Gulf Islands with lots to do in your free time. Fabulous hikes, many lakes for swimming, oceanfront beaches too. There are lovely cafes, restaurants and even a tiny movie theatre. Salt Spring is famous for its summer Saturday market. There are many talented artists on the island and featured in the Artisan tour.
