🌿 Live and learn agroforestry in the tropical jungle of Chiapas, Mexico

We are a regenerative space located in the tropical rainforest of southern Mexico, in the Soconusco region — an area recognized for its biodiversity and its strong agricultural tradition focused on crops such as cacao, coffee, and a wide diversity of tropical fruits.

Our farm is located in a small rural community where cacao and coffee production are part of everyday life. We work with agroforestry systems, syntropic agriculture, and permaculture principles, mainly focused on cacao and diverse tropical crops.

For the past 3 years, the project has been managed by a group of 5 partners who oversee both the daily operations and administrative side of the project. Some of us live here permanently, while others stay seasonally throughout the year, creating a dynamic, collaborative, and constantly evolving environment.

Within the team, Jorge and Kim focus on agroforestry production and post-harvest processes; Pete and Hernando lead natural building and hydrological design; León works on post-harvest, market access, and sales; John is a field worker specialized in arboriculture; and Paloma manages social media while also working in the field with medicinal plants and vegetables.

What we enjoy most about this project is the lifestyle we are building here: living close to nature, working with the land, and creating something meaningful as a team. We enjoy sharing this experience with the people who visit us and creating a space for learning, exchange, and connection.

🌿 Cultural exchange and shared learning

We believe that the experience goes beyond the work itself. Life here is very much about sharing, learning, and connecting.

Workawayers will have the opportunity to spend time with our team and, at times, with people from the local community. This can include shared meals, visiting nearby rivers or waterfalls, going to local markets, or simply spending time together after the workday.

In terms of learning, we share practical knowledge on agroforestry, syntropic agriculture, cacao management and post-harvest, as well as basics of permaculture and natural building. Most of the learning happens through hands-on experience in the field, combined with informal conversations where we explain the reasoning behind what we do.

At the same time, we are very interested in learning from the people who come here. Hosting people from different cultures brings new perspectives, ideas, and ways of seeing the world. Whether it’s skills, experiences, or simply stories, we value the exchange as something mutual.

For us, this is not just about hosting volunteers, but about creating a space where people can connect, learn from each other, and be part of something meaningful, even if just for a short time.

    ---

🌿 Intercambio cultural y aprendizaje compartido

    🇬🇧 English

We are looking for people interested in nature, regeneration, and simple living, who want to join us as volunteer apprentices and be part of a hands-on experience where they can gain knowledge alongside us while contributing to the project.

This is not just volunteering, it is an opportunity to actively engage in daily life and practical work on the farm. You will be involved in activities such as soil preparation, biomass management, planting, and the management of agroforestry systems, gaining a deeper understanding of how regenerative systems function and evolve over time.

Depending on the volunteer’s interests and the stage of the project, there may also be opportunities to participate in natural building activities using bamboo and wood, as well as artistic projects such as painting murals, creating signs, and contributing creatively to different spaces around the farm.

🌱 What makes this experience special:
Living immersed in a natural environment surrounded by jungle and rivers, learning directly in the field, sharing with a small and close group, and being part of a real and constantly evolving project.

    🍃 Benefits:
Access to fresh, local, and often organic food, much of it coming directly from the project; a peaceful and quiet environment ideal for disconnecting from city life; deep connection with nature; and practical knowledge you can apply to your own projects.

No previous experience is required, but a good attitude, willingness for physical work, and openness to learn are essential.

If you are interested in agroforestry, permaculture, or simply want to experience a different way of living closer to nature, this place is for you.

    ---

This image shows a pile of cocoa pods in various shades of yellow, brown, and green. The pods appear textured, rough, and naturally clustered together.
A lush, green forest stretches across rolling hills and mountains. A few small houses with red and metal roofs nestle among dense trees under a partly cloudy sky.
A person spreads cocoa beans on large mesh trays outdoors, allowing them to dry under the sun. The setting appears warm and lush, likely on a farm.
