We are a new self sustaining tiny community where young sensitive people can feel that they can let go of tensions and blockages that have been build up in the urbanised society. We assist them to discover ways to use their sensitive qualities as something meaningful. For this, we need a community building. We are open for a hands-on type of volunteers, who are able to assist us in the realisation of of this building.
Jaap and Joanne bought a piece of land In the second half of 2017. Now we live together with a group of 8, mostly young adults. We have already a beautiful veggie and flower garden (outdoors and in a greenhouse), which makes us self sufficient for most of our food. We are still living in Trailers, a gipsy wagon and Yurts, which gives a special flavour to our community.
In June 2019 we start the building of a beautiful community building, called 'the Lightship'. A very interesting project where even more experienced carpenters will learn a lot about sustainable building with straw and wood. Feel free to apply for our project when you are a volunteer with some carpentry or construction skills. Also people who are not that experienced, but who are quick learners in this field are welcome. We prefer volunteers to stay for a minimum of 4 weeks, to give us an opportunity to to get used to each other, to build up a healthy and social community and to get a good balance between learning and adding to the project. When there is a right fit, we can assure that your stay will give you an amazing learning experience in community living and in construction, while working together with a professional construction company specialised in sustainable building.
At the moment we have a cosy community Yurt where we cook and eat together and which gives a warm space to relax after our working day. We have a warm shower, toilets and facilities for laundry. Volunteers sleep in a trailer or gipsy wagon. It helps us when you are able to bring you own sleeping bag.
In December the Lightship was 'wind and water proof'. So from now on, most of the work is inside. We hope to finish our new community building in August this year, to provide a beautiful accommodation for our community. We live close to a nice forest (hiking) and a big canal (swimming). There is place for a campfire to have cosy evenings together and you can join our daily yoga routines when you want so.

We are a young project. A lot of what we do is based on our own creative thinking. This includes shaping our property, as well as finding new ways for decision making and every day social interactions. We have learned a lot from trial and error and we are very open to the input and expertise of our volunteers.
Your main activities as a workaway will be the same as ours:
- Helping out with building our community building of straw, wood, glass, and solar panels, which is coordinated by two experienced young carpenters / constructors
- working in our community vegetable and flower garden in both the greenhouse and the garden (more incidentally)
- as community member, you take your share in cooking and cleaning
- enjoying nice moments together, sharing your stories, life visions, fun group activities
You sleep in a caravan or gipsy wagon. Please bring your own sleeping bag. There is plenty of space outside. We share a very well isolated community Yurt for gatherings, cooking, eating and chatting together.
All food is shared, we eat vegetarian and partly vegan, and we eat as much as possible organic food, if possible from our own garden.
Good for you to know that this is a drug free community.
We live in Almere Oosterwold. An area were a lot of interesting new living projects are starting. We are amazed about the speed in which the houses are popping out of the ground. We are surrounded by families and communities who try to live in a more ecological and often more communal way. There is a small forest close by and a canal for swimming in warm summer days. We have a fire place outside for evening campfires and a trampoline to challenge your acrobatic skills.
