  Description

  We have been working in Guinea Bissau for 14 years, we are a small NGO. We work mainly in educational, health and hygiene projects, natural medicine, awareness of the use of medicinal plants, construction of water wells, bamboo workshop, permaculture orchard ...
  We work directly with the community respecting their culture and rhythms. We seek sustainable development over time by teaching how to make use of your own resources. The purity of the people we work with is respected.
  We are a "big family" where each one is a link to make possible the change in the lives of many people.
  The project is carried out in Varela, located in Guinea Bissau, one of the poorest countries in the world, where we have the headquarters of the NGO. Varela is a village that has a population of 900 habitants. It is located on the coast forming part of a natural park.
  Our priority is to respect the customs and traditions of the area. We learn every day to value everything we have, when we see the people around us survive without having hardly any food, health, education, light, drinking water ...
  In Guinea Bissau, Creole and Portuguese are spoken and some people also French for being near Senegal.
  
  
  Desde hace 14 años trabajamos en Guinea Bissau, somos una pequeña ONG. Trabajamos principalmente en proyectos educativos, de salud e higiene, medicina natural, sensibilización del uso de plantas medicinales, construcción de pozos de agua, taller de bambú, huerta de permacultura ...
  Trabajamos directamente con la comunidad respetando su cultura y sus ritmos. Buscamos un desarrollo sostenible en el tiempo enseñando como hacer uso de sus propios recursos. Se respeta la pureza que tienen las personas con las que trabajamos.
  Somos una "gran familia" donde cada uno es un eslabón para hacer posible el cambio en la vida de muchas personas.
  El proyecto se realiza en Varela, una comunidad rural situada al norte de Guinea Bissau, uno de los países más pobres del mundo, donde tenemos la sede de la ONG. Varela es una aldea que cuenta con una población de 900 habitantes. Está ubicada en la costa formando parte de un parque natural.
  Nuestra prioridad es respetar las costumbres y tradiciones de la zona. Aprendemos cada día a valorar todo lo que tenemos, cuando vemos a las personas de nuestro alrededor sobrevivir sin tener apenas comida, sanidad, educación, luz, agua potable...
  En Guinea Bissau se habla criolo y portugués y algunas personas también francés por estar cerca de Senegal.

  Accommodation

  The accommodation is next to the "Training School". 5 meters from the headquarters of the NGO.
  
  We have a small house with three spaces:
  
  - a room with 3 bunk beds and mattresses, shared for 6 people.
  - a small room for two people. (Although we have capacity for 8 people, there are usually no more than 3 volunteers at a time)
  - a kitchen: volunteers will have to cook their own food even if all the food is provided by the NGO. The food is based on: vegetables, pasta, rice, eggs, some vegetables and seasonal fruit. Sometimes fish or meat, but they are not easy to get. In the village there are small shops that have basic products but there are no supermarkets or much variety. The purchase will have to be made in the capital that is four hours away, so it is complicated.
  
  Next to the house we have a shower and a latrine with running water but not with hot water. There is an outdoor dining room for different activities.
  
  The environment is very beautiful, with trees and palm trees, a quiet place without noise and close to the town itself where there is a hotel, a local food house and a disco.
  
  
  El alojamiento se encuentra al lado de la "Escuela de formación". A 5 metros de la sede de la ONG.
  
  Tenemos una pequeña casa con tres espacios:
  
  - una habitación con 3 literas y colchones, compartida para 6 personas.
  - una habitación pequeña para dos personas. (Aunque tenemos capacidad para 8 personas, no suele haber mas de 3 voluntarios a la vez)
  - una cocina: los voluntarios tendrán que cocinar y adquirir su propia comida.Cuando tenemos producción en la huerta tanto de fruta como de verdura la compartimos con los voluntarios. En la aldea hay pequeñas tiendas que tienen productos básicos pero no existen supermercados ni mucha variedad. La compra se tendrá que hacer en la capital que está a cuatro horas, por lo que se debe hacer al viajar al lugar, es una gestión en la que os podemos echar una mano.
  
  Al lado de la casa tenemos una ducha y una letrina con agua corriente pero no con agua caliente. Hay un comedor al aire libre para realizar diferentes actividades.
  
  El entorno es muy bonito, con árboles y palmeras, un lugar tranquilo sin ruido y cerca de la propia población donde hay algún hotel, una casa de comida local y una discoteca.
  En el hotel se puede comer o cenar por un importe de 8-12 euros y en la taberna por 2 o 3 euros.

  We have an ethical code with the volunteers of our NGO so that the impact of our work on the population is not damaged. The code has to be signed and accepted by the people who are part of our team.
  
  The headquarters of the NGO as well as the house of volunteers is a comfortable and cozy place so that people can rest and will make your stay more pleasant.
  
  The weather in Varela being a beach place is mild, with temperatures not too high depending on the time, and in winter it cools at night. The beach is 1 km away.
  
  The region where we work is totally rural and of great beauty both in the landscape and in the human part of the people who inhabit it.
  
  
  
  Tenemos un código ético con los voluntarios de nuestra ONG para que el impacto de nuestro trabajo en la población no sea dañado. El código tiene que ser firmado y aceptado por las personas que formen parte de nuestro equipo.
  
  La sede de la ONG al igual que la casa de voluntarios es un lugar confortable y acogedor con el fin de que las personas puedan descansar y hará tu estancia más agradable.
  
  El tiempo en Varela, al ser un lugar de playa, es suave con temperaturas no excesivamente elevadas dependiendo de la época, y en invierno refresca por la noche. La playa se encuentra a 1 km.
  
  La región donde trabajamos es totalmente rural y de una gran belleza tanto en el paisaje como en la parte humana de las personas que la habitan.
  
  Se pide una aportación diaria de 12 euros para poder hacer frente a las reparaciones de las instalaciones realizadas para que los voluntarios tengan unas comodidades a la hora de tener un cuarto, una cocina (pagar el gas), agua y luz en un país donde esto es algo prohibitivo para la mayoría de la población.
