    Description

My name is Daniel, I am Indigenous Australia and live in a beautiful location on the South Coast of NSW. I love nature and Im passionate about restoring health to Australian flora and fauna through Indigenous practice. I admire the way nature works and believe we as humans have so much to learn from these unique symbolic patterns and cycles within nature. I’m interested in Indigenous knowledge and I strongly believe that the gaps missing within this knowledge system is locked away in nature and is revealed when we learn the art of reading landscape cycles and patterns I work for Firesticks Alliance Indigenous Corporation and currently delivering a partnership program involving community and multiple agency stakeholders with the outcome to protect and enhance the habitat of a small and fragile koala population located here on the south coast of NSW by combining Indigenous landscape knowledge and practice and modern day technology

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I can teach about local Aboriginal culture and traditional land practices . The basic on how traditional land management works and how to identify different ecosystems or what I call country types. I can also give to guests an in-depth understanding of how the Forest systems of Australia evolved with the Indigenous people of this land and how they were managed and maintained through a traditional fire regime practised for thousands of years before colonisation. Also Depending on time of year and season can teach about different bush foods and uses

The ocean has always been part of my life I can teach ocean activities such as surfing, fishing, boating and snorkelling. I enjoy the social aspects that workaway has to offer me by being a host. I like meeting and learning from guests about different culture, life styles and experience's as it teaches me to look at things from another perspective it also teaches me appreciation

always need some help around the house with daily maintenance and odd jobs during the weekend. There will be opportunities within the project to help as a volunteer this will involve koala surveys, wildlife cameras set up and monitoring and night surveys using Thermal Imaging equipment to locate koala and other wildlife populations and habitat.

    Accommodation

I live alone in a house opposite a beautiful beach. My house is quite spacious , Guest will have their own room and the rest of the house is shared. There are plenty of places for privacy to relax and have some quiet time other than your room. Food is supplied depending on the work arrangement, Im easy going so I'm happy to Negotiate working arrangements. I work full time so it’s convenient for me if visitors cook meals now and then but it's not essential. I can sometimes accommodate two guests when traveling together

Visitors in their spare time can enjoy exploring this beautiful coast line that is enriched with the diversity of Australia wildlife. The area where I live has spectacular beauty but is also limited by transport. If guest staying would like to do day trips at different locations, I can transport them with my personal vehicle If I’m not too busy with work, otherwise guess always welcome to volunteer with Work with firesticks

Please remember and respect that any knowledge I do share is to remain as the intellectual property of Indigenous Australia
