    Description

My name Daniel, I live at a place called Wallaga Lake aka Beauty Point , south coast of New South Wales. I am Indigenous Australian and proud to have an ancestral connection that has evolved over thousands of years with this unique , country. I'm friendly with an open mind and enjoy meeting people of different cultures and backgrounds as I find it interesting I learn from being different perspectives and lifestyle point of views .
The location of my house short walk to a few beautiful scenic locations, Camel Rock beach, horse head rock and Wallaga lake (in profile photos) all three are favoured destinations for photographers

If surfing is your thing then camel differently has its day but it can be a difficult paddle out when it has a bit of size. But all around it’s a good consistent surf break whether you’re a beginner or more experience surfer. I’ve lived near the coast for most of my life and I’m comfortable at reading and knowing the ocean, I enjoy exploring the coastline and participating in all ocean activities, (surfing, fishing, snorkelling, sailing, camping) i hold a deep respect for the ocean and appreciate everything that it taught me over the years

I also have a bush property located approximately 20min drive away from my current location at camel rock. It’s deeply located in a koala habitat forest I have an old school bus there that I’m converting to be my future residence or perhaps a weekender This is also another beautiful area with lots of wildlife Kangaroos , Wallabies, Wombats, snakes and lizards and if lucky you could get to see a koala or a platypus , both are rather elusive, for this to be achieved both time and patience is needed

. My neighbour there has three horses and is always looking for someone to go riding with. I'm not familiar with horse riding but have a slight interest in learning how to ride as I do think this would be a fantastic. way to explore the forests that are surrounding my property

A freshwater river flows alongside the property that has a deep-water hole, great area for meditation or swimming , although water temp can be refreshing as its spring feed from a near by mountain called Biamanga National Park or Mumbulla mountain. Biamanga NP or aka Mumbulla Mountain is a sacred mountain to the Indigenous people of the Yuin Nation ( south coast people). The mountain.and the surrounding areas are known as a place of ceremony. It is the location of the first ever recorded ceremony in Australia that took place in the 1880s by an early anthropologist Explorer called Alford William Howitt. In 2018 /2019, I worked alongside an anthropologist from Deacon University who had transcribed howitts journals and note books and from this information we were able retrace the movements of this ceremony that was recorded in the late 1800s.

I have worked with the local community in many different roles from helping protect and maintain sacred sites, to protecting and managing habitat of threatened wildlife species. I really enjoy working with and caring for animals, especially native Australian species. My heart is in nature and I feel most comfortable when amongst it

I’ve also worked around Fire for many years . Both Western Fire management, which involved hazard reduction burns and the suppression of wildfire as well traditional land management with the use of fire ( Fire regime of Australia before colonisation) , although both having a holistic outcome are extremely different to each other, one seems to destroys and damage landscape and ecosystems while the other nourishes and improves overall health To explain via writing to an in depth level on how both Forest management systems work and differ from each other, would end up being a 10 pager so this I can teach this at more practical level through experience by walking country visiting and these areas,

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I can teach about local Aboriginal culture and traditional land practice

I can explain to a in depth knowledge about both fire forest management system as well as the differences between western ( hazard reduction) and traditional methods and can explain both of the holistic outcome achieved

Depending on time of year and the season I can teach about different native plants, foods and uses . I can also teach about gathering traditional foods such as abalone, oysters muscles , bimbulla and others seafoods and shellfish.(this is year round)

Haha I’m not exactly the best hunter and gatherer but I’m sure we’ll have fun while doing. I’m always up for exploring different areas and love all day or all night land or Sea adventure

If you're interested in surfing, i can teach and give lessons to at a beginner's level I have a perfect board for those just starting can also teach other ocean and beach activities fishing, sailing, snorkeling

I enjoy the social aspects that workaway has to offer. I enjoy learning from guests as much as I enjoy teaching, I’m always up for learning something new either through practical experience or by engaging through in-depth conversations.

I would love to learn more about Yoga or Pilates as I would love to practice this daily , I would be extremely grateful if a guest could teach me these correct methods of practice

I could do a small camper van but my place is limited with space . A campervan. probably wouldn’t make it to the block of land in wet conditions
