Description
** availability during some of December and some of January **
Our quiet semi rural property is on the outskirts of Pomona, in the beautiful hinterland of the Sunshine Coast.
We are on a quiet cul-de-sac, bordering extensive bush land.
We have a beautiful separate living area for helpers, newly completed,
with small kitchenette and private bathroom, overlooking the large dam & property.
We finished the lovely accommodations for our adult children & partners
and other occasional family & friends who visit from the UK & Europe.
We’ve met many lovely helpers through local friends who host and have been inspired to begin hosting.
Our local kangaroos graze by the windows each day, which which delights most visitors.
We have an extensive subtropical garden with a large collection of aroids, orchids, ferns & foliage.
I breed aroids and need help maintaining and managing the gardens & fruit and vegetable gardens.
I'm happy to involve helpers in learning how to breed, propagate, and grow these rarer plants in our subtropical microclimate. We make our own compost and activated biochar, and our beautiful garden is such a success due to investment in micronutrients, understanding and introducing beneficial fungal and microbials, creating microclimates and habitat for native wildlife.
We'd really enjoy sharing our skills in the garden and we'd love help with some of the maintenance,
as well as sharing our skills with some of the more delicate tasks.
I'm also looking for help with videography and photography of the garden and my rare plants.
My Instagram account will give you a glimpse of what I grow and love.
Our property is rural but not remote, quiet but not cut off...we are about 90 mins from central Brisbane.
It's a nice relaxed 15 walk to Pomona, where there are plenty of shops and cafes, community activities,
and a thriving weekly market, train station & regular buses. Cooroy is 5mins drive in the other direction & there are more buses to Noosa, Eumundi, Yandina, Nambour and beyond.
Noosa is about 25 minutes drive to the renown beautiful beaches.
Mount Cooroora is visible from our deck, and is an enjoyable climb for many.
Bushwalking, off road bike riding, etc are on the doorstep......and there are many local classes and groups...tai chi, pilates, yoga, etc
I'm in a wonderful community choir 🎶🎶 which welcomes visitors.
One of my friends often brings HelpX visitors to choir.
There is a wonderful Acoustic Night regularly in Cooran (choir often performs) and local venues host a range of local music & cultural events.
Dhamma Rasmi, the Queensland Vipassana Centre borders our property, and the peaceful meditation centre is a haven for wildlife.
We can certainly arrange a tour for any helpers who'd like to visit.
We are a retired couple, relatively active, with no pets.
We lead a fairly local, quiet, outdoor life.
*Please note: we have no alcohol or recreational drugs on the property at all.
We can offer Homestay with or without meals; one of us is vegetarian, the other not...
We have a beautiful outdoor kitchen overlooking the garden.
We are looking for helpers on an ongoing basis, and our Workaway calendar is updated regularly.
We welcome enquiries, and offer stays initially for one week, though where there is a good match for us all, we also welcome longer stays.
**Please note, helpers will need to bring suitable footwear & clothing for outdoor work.
Outdoor work is dirty & you'll need to have sturdy boots or shoes**

We live in a beautiful part of the world, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, walking distance to Pomona and close to the gorgeous beaches of Noosa Biosphere. This area enjoys thriving local activities which we're happy to help Workawayers discover.
We've enjoyed helpers in the past, meeting younger people, (our adult children live in the UK) and sharing our skills and space for a simple exchange.Help
Gardening:
ideally, we'd love skilled help with the garden. We work hard ourselves, and we work best with exchange guests who enjoy working outside.
We're happy to have semi-skilled gardening help as well, but exchange guests should understand that gardening work can be hot and sometimes quite dirty, & so ideally you should be fit enough to work outside & you should definitely come prepared with suitable clothes & footwear.
Experience with Hügelkultur, biochar, wood vinegar; different compost methods would be an excellent exchange for us.
If skilled there are some ongoing small building tasks that'd be done with Steve :
Skilled carpenter, Skilled Joiner
Stonemason: we have some practical dry stone tasks; plus some ongoing garden art work using large Basalt stones we'd like help with
Skilled painter and decorator
Photographer, with editing skills
Videographer, with editing skills
Drone &/Gimbal experience
House cleaning, ironing;
Some food preparation
Sewing: I have a sewing machine I can't use....and lots of small sewing jobs that could be done.
Depending on the workaway guest...there are skilled but simple tasks in my aroid & orchid nursery.Languages spoken

Workawayers will have a beautiful separate living space with their own bathroom and small kitchenette....
Due to the location of the apartment, this is not a suitable exchange for anyone who cannot easily navigate stairs.
There is one Queen size bed, so this is suitable for a single person or couple.
We have a lovely outdoor kitchen and would expect to share one meal a day.
Helpers make their own breakfast and drinks etc.
We do not have any alcohol or recreational drugs on our property, and would need any helpers to respect this. What else ...
Famous local beaches are 25 mins away;
The hinterland has many beautiful walking tracks, mountains to climb
Pomona has many activities, a weekly market, and is a 15 minute walk away
We are retired and live a slower paced life.....so we don't enjoy a night life but rather a very quiet life surrounded by bush & local wildlife
We'd be happy to show helpers in their time off some local life:
anyone would be welcome to join the local choir, Steve likes climbing the local mountain;
there are lovely local art galleries, a beautiful Botanical Garden, local markets etc
A vehicle or at least a driving licence is very helpful.
Any Helper enquiring would need to be fit enough to walk to town for their free time etc, to catch a bus or to go to the local cafes etc. as we are not always available for providing transport.
We also appreciate our own privacy, so Workaway guests would need to agree to go out in some of their time off ….the area is very beautiful…and a pleasure to explore… so this is not usually a problem 🪷A little more information
