    Description

We are Rui, Karina and two year old Sami. We are a creative family who enjoys art, nature, science, education, and we have a DIY approach to most problems. Right now we need help in our home where we are restarting our artistic projects and taking care of Karina's family place. We plant organic veggies, care for a mediterranean/tropical orchard, and try to find time for our projects in the midst of a beautiful yet relentless storm called parenthood.

Our place is a bittersweet suburbscape: outside the gates we have the depressing setting of a super busy and noisy road, but inside we have a little paradise with lots of trees, birds, water and kitschy artistic stuff. We also have a tank/pool where to dip and refresh. The trainstation is nearby (a few minutes walk) and you can easily access Tavira, Faro and Olhão. The beach is just 6 kilometers away from our house (either the city of Quarteira or more quiet beaches).

We're not party people right now and we have so much stuff to do that we practically just go out to the beach or a hike. We love having people around, and sharing and learning with fellow humans, but be aware that our places aren't very socially active. Think of it more like a place where to chill, learn, and a good platform for your own explorations - even though you are welcome to join us in our own :)

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are completely immersed in our projects right now and with family, friends or guests, we share what is happening in the moment. We are creative and open-minded people, well-travelled, with experience in multiple crafts, and everyday we try to learn and teach as much as possible - workaway is just another extension of that and travellers are very welcome to join the ride, both to learn and to teach.

We have daily missions that require no help but might provide interesting insights on: professional sewing (for theatre), professional sourdough baking, fermenting sauerkraut and kimchi, drawing, sculpture, photography, animation, carpentry, welding, natural building (clay, straw and wood), medicinal plants, permaculture, grafting, etc.

  • Help

    Help

In all of our projects we do practically everything ourselves so there are possibilities to learn many things. We'll prepare simple easygoing tasks but helpers can join us in any tasks that they feel confortable with in case they want to learn new skills. We would never ask anyone to perform heavy or dangerous tasks.

Example of tasks: weeding, mulching, cleaning branches and leaves, moving stuff around, cleaning and preparing spaces for new projects, cooking, drawing or making soap bubbles with little Sami :)
