    Description

Welcome to our laid-back surf hostel located in Escamequita, Nicaragua 🇳🇮 just south of San Juan del Sur!
Nestled in the peaceful Nicaraguan jungle and only a 5-minute walk to the world-class waves of Playa Yankee, our hostel is the perfect blend of nature, surf, and community. We offer a fun, relaxed atmosphere surrounded by beauty and tranquility.

We’re currently welcoming Workaway artists, volunteers, and creatives to join our project! Help us teach English to local kids, decorate the space with your art, or get your hands dirty planting a lush garden. I also run a fun sailboat tour business and could use help hosting trips and showing guests a good time there as well. Cultural Exchange & Volunteering at the Hostel – Escamequita, Nicaragua 🌱🌊

Volunteering here is more than just a task list — it’s about genuine connection with the local community and helping out wherever you feel inspired. We believe the best contributions come from the heart, so we give volunteers the freedom to use their unique skills, creativity, and ideas to make a difference.

Escamequita is a small, humble, and beautiful rural village, where the people are incredibly kind and welcoming — but also face real challenges. We're looking for motivated, open-minded individuals who want to help in meaningful ways: whether that’s teaching English, helping host sailboat trips, starting community projects, planting gardens, painting murals, or simply being a positive presence.

This is an opportunity for real cultural exchange, personal growth, and impact. Come with an open heart, a fresh perspective, and a drive to think outside the box — and you’ll find your place here!

    Help

I'm looking for community-minded volunteers to join our team in Escamequita. Just a short walk from Playa Yankee. As a volunteer, you’ll help shape the newly created space and contribute to meaningful local outreach.

    Volunteer tasks include:

Teaching English to local kids and adults in a fun, informal setting

Helping with art projects like murals, signs, and decorations around the hostel. I need some assistance with making the hostel look better!

Helping host sailboat trips and providing guests a fun and memorable experience cruising the Emerald Coast!

Gardening and landscaping – planting flowers, veggies, and creating chill outdoor areas

General hostel help like tidying common spaces, socializing with guests, and sharing good vibes!

No strict schedule – we believe in flexibility, creativity, and enjoying the experience. In return, you'll get a place to stay, access to beautiful nature, and a chance to be part of a growing, inspiring community.

What We Offer & What to Expect 🏡🌴

Our hostel is newly built with basic amenities, offering a comfortable and authentic experience in a peaceful jungle setting. The structure is made of cinder blocks and cement, giving it a solid and simple Spanish casita vibe — nothing fancy, but full of charm and potential.

    We provide:

A place to stay in a shared or private space (depending on availability)

    Electricity and water included

A relaxed, creative environment surrounded by nature

    Volunteers will need to:

I can provide local ingredients for Workawayers to cook the hostel (a small kitchen space may be available for cooking)

Have their own transportation (motorbike or atv is ideal), although the area is safe for walking and daily buses run to and from nearby towns. San Juan del Sur is a 20 minute bus ride. Hitchhiking is also safe and customary.

This is a great opportunity for independent, resourceful travelers who are excited to live simply, contribute meaningfully, and immerse themselves in rural Nicaraguan life.
