    Description

Share our private 10 acres of eucalyptus bushland. We are a small family living in between Noosa beaches and the beautiful Eumundi township with plenty of walking/ bike trails and markets nearby. Peregian Beach is 15 min drive.

    The work and space:
I need Workaways to help take care of some general maintenance of our 10 acre property. This consists of mowing, brushcutting, bushfire prevention work (clearing fallen branches), assist with animal care (pets and orphaned possums) and daily house work (keep kitchen, bathroom, main living areas and outside deck tidy). The bushfire prevention work can be challenging for some people who are unfit or not used to hot weather, or wildlife. When this is the case, Workaways might complete one hour of bushwork and then two hours of other work, rather than three hours of just bushwork. Other Workaways really like the bushwork and favour it above the other jobs.

We are environmentally friendly and mostly off grid - rainwater tanks only, solar power, chemical free pool, organic veggie garden & fruit trees, make compost, big on recycling and low impact on the local environment. We are looking for workaways with the same values and respect for the earth, value a clean and tidy living space and healthy lifestyle. Think - no smoking, 2 minute showers, composting your veggie scraps, and also cleaning and recycling most of your grocery packaging. I can't bear to see people throw their recycling rubbish into the landfill bins, or put to unwashed/dirty containers in the recycling bin.

The accommodation is a clean and tidy caravan about 50 metres from the main house, with a double bed, kitchen, sitting area and private outdoor balinese hot shower with a view!

At the moment, due to circumstances, I ask Workaways to self-cater (purchase their own food and cook it for themselves, mostly in the caravan). With self-catering, the work is reduced to 3 hours per day, five days per week. I also ask that you take your two days break during the weekdays, rather than over the weekend (when possible). This is because I like to assist Workaways in their duties on the weekend when I am free. Also, it is less crowded for Workaways at the tourist areas during the weekdays. Noosa is crazy busy on the weekends! And also, if you don't have a car, it is much easier for me to drop you off in Noosa, or elsewhere, on my way to work, and pick you up on my way home from work.

As we are in a bushfire – affected postcode, your work here will contribute towards a second year Visa. A total of 88 days across various approved jobs/workaway placements, gives you the second year Visa. You are welcome to do part of the government requirement as a Workaway here. All of my past Workaways to date have had this visa approved with no problems. Unfortunately, I know longer guarantee that Workaways can stay for long periods of time. I am happy to guarantee a two week stay, and then discuss the possibility of staying longer after that.

Mobile phone reception, especially Telstra, is great here as we are on the top of the hill. Wi-Fi works well in the main house but not so great in the caravan. You will need mobile data for that. You are welcome to access our Wi-Fi in the house as you need it.

As I work full time, a single person may feel a bit lonely or isolated here by themselves. I tend to take couples or friends travelling together for this reason. However, if you are travelling solo and don't mind quietness, solitude, reading, meditation, solo walks and cooking for yourself, you will enjoy your stay.

    About us:
We are nature and animal lovers and enjoy and active and healthy lifestyle. We have two adorable dogs, a well-behaved cat and lots of native wildlife. My two lovely boys come and go between here and uni/work/their dad's place, and my elderly mum lives here on the property in her tiny home. I also have a friend staying with me for a while. Between all of us, we have a variety of knowledge we are happy to share with you – surfing, playing guitar/piano, caring for orphaned wildlife, pottery, making bread/kombucha, eco-dying, yoga, handcrafts and more. We have lived in the area for 18 years, so have a lot of local knowledge, but we are also well travelled and happy to share our experiences and recommendations with you.

I work full time as a teacher (Steiner/Waldorf school) so you will have the place to yourself during the day to complete your hours, relax or explore the area. I encourage you to get out and about and explore the sunny coast area as much as you can. It's my favourite part of the world. My neighbour also hosts Workaways, so you may have the opportunity to meet and socialise with other travellers if you like.

We have lived in the area for 18 years and can share knowledge of the local culture, indigenous history, and best places of interest for a wide variety of traveller interests. There is an abundance of native wildlife – birds, goannas, wallabies, snakes, possums, etc. I am a trained native wildlife carer and happy to share my experience of caring for injured native birds and marsupials. At the moment I have a baby brushtail possum that I am nursing back to health and will release back into the forest shortly. Being a bushfire prone area, our local Rural Fire Brigade recently completed our yearly bush fire hazard reduction controlled burn ( using indigenous practices) on about 3 acres of our property, which continue to burn slowly for a whole week and was an amazing experience for our Workaways.
