Description
The farm is a working food forest in Western Uganda, growing both Arabica and Robusta coffee alongside a variety of fruits and vegetables. The farm uses natural, sustainable practices and offers a hands-on learning environment for those interested in coffee production, agroforestry, and rural life in Africa.
My experience includes studies at Makerere College. I have volunteered with World Wide Opportunity on Organic Farms for over 10 years.
Workawayers will take part in daily farm activities such as planting, pruning, harvesting, field work, learning about different plants and their uses, and supporting small community projects. Tasks are done with the local community, with plenty of opportunity to share skills and learn from one another.
It’s common to spot wildlife nearby, from monkeys and elephants to many bird species that are found only in Uganda.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers will experience rural life in Western Uganda, Kasese region. You are encourage to participate in community activities while working alongside my team. Through cultural exchange, Workawayers will learn about local customs, food and village life. Additionally, you will learn patience and respect for doing things differently than your home country. We hope that you share your traditions and provide us with different ideas as well. Finally, you will leave with extensive knowledge about local plants that include Papaya, Jackfruit, Passionfruit, Starfruit, Mangoes, Coconut, and many more in addition to Coffee and Cocoa.

Help
I have 10+ local workers on the farm that may or may not be working alongside Workawayers. Daily tasks include planting, pruning, harvesting, and drying coffee. You will be learning from the local workers and sharing any expertise that you have. The best way to learn is through hands-on experience, if you enjoy the outdoors please consider coming to my farm.

Accommodation is available either at the gardens or on the farm. Electricity and internet are available at the gardens. If you choose to camp at the Gardens or the farm, there will be a bathroom provided to you. Cell reception at the Farm is limited but there is power.
Volunteers will be provided with locally grown, freshly prepared meals. Breakfast usually includes omelets or sandwiches with fruit, such as bananas. Lunch and dinner are more varied and often include rice, matoke, vegetables, spices, and meat. Vegetarian options are also available and typically include beans as the main source of protein.
What else ...
With your time off you can go to Queen Elizabeth National Park, visit Kasese, Kibale National Park, the Hills of Rwenzori, or just relax in our beautiful gardens. The gardens is a great place to enjoy nature, journal or just relax.
The easiest way to reach us is to fly into Entebbe International Airport. From Entebbe, take a taxi to Kampala, then travel by Link Bus to Western Uganda (Kasese). From Kasese, we can help arrange local transport and give final directions to where you will be staying for the duration of your stay.
Please bring suitable work clothes for farm and garden tasks which includes sturdy shoes, a sharp knife for grafting and pruners. We also recommend bringing some nice clothes for social or community occasions.
