    Description

Hello, we are Matt and Marg!

We are a family with two boys (13 & 11) and are members of an ecovillage, an interesting community with cool examples of social connectedness and sustainable building. There are regular events, concerts and workshops, and there are other workaways often staying at the ecovillage too.

Our place is within walking distance of the beautiful Strickland Forest and a short drive to amazing beaches, with close access by train to Sydney. We love the idea of hosting people from different parts of the world and with different experiences. We love outdoor activities and can point you to all the best hikes and lookouts on the coast, or the best places for mountain biking or rock climbing.

We are part of the ecovillage which offers regular events, concerts and workshops. There are regular weekly events like Qi Gong, Yoga, crafting, meditation, bush regeneration, community gardening and dancing which you can take part in.

The beautiful Strickland State Forest, which you can walk to in minutes, is a great place take a picnic or stroll through the arboretum. Strickland Arbortum was the site of the first government forest nursery and has remnants of native and exotic tree plantings which are among the oldest in Australia. You can also take a longer loop out to a waterfall and at certain times of year see the amazing Gymea Lilies flowering.

The nearby train can take you to Gosford that has shops and restaurants, Woy Woy where you can walk along the waterways and get a coffee, or into Sydney or Newcastle. If you have transport, we can point you to all the best hikes and lookouts on the coast, or the best places for mountain biking or rock climbing.

There are often other workaways staying locally that you can connect with too.

    Help

We can take people for up to a week at a time. We would love help with yard work, maintenance/construction and possibly some cleaning.

Projects we have on right now include - upcycling hardwood (removing nails), repairing pathway edging, and cleaning up for a small renovation project.

There are always hedges that need trimming, garden beds to be weeded and leaf clean up, and if you have a green thumb, we would love some help with our vegie beds. We have a banana circle that needs some love and some berries that need tending. If you have carpentry skills or welding, we could use some help fixing the ecovillage chook tractor and completing the trailer which will make it easier to move the chickens every 2 weeks.

If it gets too hot outdoors, we also have some indoor spring cleaning. We'll provide non-toxic cleaning supplies for dust removal, clearing cobwebs and washing windows. And if you like cooking, we'd love some help with food prep too!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Generally we'll host you in hostel style accomodation at the ecovillage or at the beautiful campground, if you'd prefer (no extra charge). Depending on availability, we also have a private space with a queen bedroom, own bathroom and living room with some cooking facilities. Wherever you sleep, you'll wake up to the sound of the birds!

We'll make you up a basket of goodies so you can make your own breakfast and lunch - fresh fruit, granola and home made yoghurt, and sandwich fixings for lunch including greens from the ecovillage when they're available. Dinners we'll host you at our house or pack up takeaway so you can enjoy at your leisure. Unfortunately we can't currently cater for special diets.
