    Description

Looking for people with a heart for nature, being outdoors and interest or knowlegde of permaculture for our small peaceful farm located in the South West of Tenerife with gardening, free range chickens and growing fruit trees, only for own consumption.

We are a small family of three: Nico (38 years, Argentinian), Rani (36 years, Belgian) and Ámbar (1 year old) and we have been travelling for many years in Latin America, Asia and Oceania before settling on the Island of Tenerife. Our finca has 3.500 m2 with 700m2 orchard and a little vegetable garden. We are just outside the touristic area of Los Gigantes and just below the local town of Tamaimo at about 300 meters altitude. Easy reachable by bus and car. Only 10 minutes drive away to put your feet into a sandy or rocky beach and 15 minutes drive from the mountains. Our place is very relaxed and tranquil. We have free range chickens who give us fresh eggs every morning and we have our two cats that wonder around the farm.

  • Help

    Help

First of all we are looking for people willing to help us on a daily basis. As we are only the two of us, and our daughter, Ámbar, who requires full attention, helping us around the farm with looking after our chickens, cleaning up and watering plants is a already a huge help. Our chickens require daily care: feeding, giving them clean drinking water, cleaning the chicken coop and collecting eggs. Giving water to our many trees and plants takes time. Also we need extra hands repairing and fixing things on the farm to improve the state of the farm.

Besides that we love to welcome people who want to help us growing and improving our small ecological garden (vegetable & herb garden) to be able to be more self-sufficient (planting seeds, watering and planting new herbs and vegetables, cleaning up and prepare the earth, create new space to plant more) and help us to start our next project (and ultimate dream): to create a food forest (dry area – water management is important) on our 700m2 orchard with pathways in it to be able to walk through it.

Previous experience with permaculture would be really helpful as we are still learning day by day! We have already some trees growing here: lemon, orange, fig and mango trees but it needs lots more love to put into it to improve the soil and plant new trees and bushes.

Are you passionate about being outdoors, gardening or garden design, permaculture and/or work with the soil and your hands, not scared of hard work in the sun and trying something new, being flexible and have some relevant experience, you are the person(s) we are looking for. We also accept couples. Are you creative and want to paint artistic signs throughout our garden area to make it even prettier that is also welcome.

As we also rent three rooms on our property to make a living and pay the bills, we therefor want to clarify that all the help needed is for our own needs and workawayers won't be helping with our paying guests or the areas used by them.

We offer a comfortable large tent with double mattress, sheets and pillow with views on the garden and the sea. You can use the shared bathroom and our outside, fully equipped communal kitchen with BBQ area and the living room (shared with other guests). If available, we could also offer a room with a double bed for a couple or two single beds for sharing.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are no early birds so for breakfast time we will at least provide you with tea, coffee, milk, lemons, fresh eggs, toast and/or cereales that you can have when you prefer. We would love to taste some new dishes so it would be nice to cook lunch together one day and learn from each other. Dinner we leave at your own choice as we are very irregular and not often home together in the evening. On days off we let you enjoy your freedom to get to know the island, so we do not provide lunch nor dinner those days.

The working hours will be flexible, if there are jobs we do together it will be mostly during the mornings between 9am and 2pm and other daily jobs that require less guidance can be done in the early morning as well (thinking of feeding the chickens and changing their water, sweeping the leaves or water plants). Generally you are free in the afternoons, unless there is a specific task that needs to be done.

Our finca is close to the town of Los Gigantes and Puerto Santiago for enjoying the beaches or Tamaimo if you prefer going hiking into the Teno Natural Reserve.

Keep in mind that our farm is not close to shops, bars or restaurants. You always need a car or bus to go somewhere. During weekdays we have a bus passing by every two hours. On Saturday and Sunday there is only one bus. Other option is when we go down to town, we can give you a lift but this is not always possible.
