    Description

    Hi there!
We’re Niamh and Sam, a busy, creative family living in rural Clare along the Wild Atlantic Way, just outside Lahinch. We’re looking for a warm, easy-going, reliable Workawayer who can think on their feet and feels comfortable in a lively house full of active children,

    The help
We’re mainly looking for childcare support, around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, helping us with day-to-day family life. Our home can be loud, energetic, and full of fun, so a calm, positive attitude is essential. we also are just about to start work on our craft school and need someone who is handy in the garden and wouldn’t mind clearing and cutting back branches ect.

    What we offer
In exchange, you’ll have your own brand-new en-suite room with a kitchenette, plus board and accommodation included. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore and enjoy this beautiful part of Ireland.

    About us
We’re a family of six with three-year-old twins, an eight-year-old son, and a five-year-old daughter.
Niamh is a chef, and Sam is a bladesmith/knife maker with a workshop on our land. Over the years we’ve run a successful restaurant and a furniture-making business, and we’re currently setting up a craft and cookery school here at home.

    The place
We live on 3.5 acres with a young orchard, vegetable plots, and wild areas. Our land includes an agricultural shed and old stone outbuildings that we plan to convert into accommodation in the future.
Although our home is very rural and peaceful, we’re:
About 10 minutes by car from Lahinch (surf, beach, cafés)
A short drive to Ennistymon, a lovely market town
Around 20 minutes by car from the Cliffs of Moher
Within driving distance of ferries to the Aran Islands
🚗 Driving is essential, particularly during the colder months. We are not within walking distance of towns, shops, or public transport, and having your own car is strongly recommended to fully enjoy the area and manage day-to-day life here. We do have an e-bike, but this is best suited to confident cyclists and fair weather.

If you’re kind, adaptable, enjoy children, and would love to experience real life on the Wild Atlantic Way, we’d love to hear from you.

    Best wishes,
    Niamh & Sam

A stay with us will give opportunity to explore some of the beauties of The Wild Atlantic Way and the rugged west coast of Ireland - there is exceptional surf, stunning walks, traditional music and more. The cities of Galway and Limerick are within an hour and halfs drive offering arts, theatres, cinemas, gigs, award winning restaurants etc.

We can offer the opportunity to learn cookery skills, sour dough backing, find out what goes into a hand-made chefs knife and get involved with growing vegetables for the family food table.

The area is a stunning mix of wild coast line, rolling green hills and the famous Burren National Park and Aran Islands for some unique Irish experiences

    Help & Expectations
We’re looking for 5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week. Tasks will vary and may include:
Childminding – play, creative activities, reading, and spending quality time with the children

House help – general tidying and cleaning in a busy family home

Our home has four small children, so it can be loud, energetic, and messy — but full of warmth and laughter. We truly believe life is for living.
We’re looking for one individual who can work on their own initiative, has a strong work ethic, and brings kindness, patience, and a good sense of humour, especially with children

    Accommodation

In exchange for your help, we offer comfortable accommodation in our home, along with 3 meals a day and Wi-Fi.
You’ll have a private ground-floor bedroom with separate access, a double bed, and your own en-suite bathroom with shower. The room has Wi-Fi access and offers privacy while still being part of our family home.
Meals will be shared as part of family life. We provide three meals daily, using good-quality local produce and a varied diet. You’re very welcome to join in with cooking if that’s something you enjoy, but there’s no obligation as you will have your own kitchenette in your room that you can use if you would like.
We also have bikes available to help you explore the local area. In addition, we have friends who run a surf hire business nearby and can help with board and wetsuit hire or surf lessons at a friendly rate.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We have a busy family home in which we enjoy our personal space but also love sharing with others - we often have friends over for dinner or diving in and out of the workshop or garden.

We are both hard workers and enjoy working together and on our own, anyone coming to join us would need to be good both as a team or self directed and be comfortable to ask for further help where needed.

We have both lived, worked and travelled around the world over the last 20 odd years or more and have relished getting stuck into many jobs, we would therefore prefer anyone coming to have a bit of life experience and savey - you will be helping in a variety of tasks including mucking in with the kids so over 21s would be preferable.

There is no smoking in the house please, you can smoke in the garden should you wish.
