    Description

I have a house with a garden in the village of Chalabre. I was born here, but moved away when I was young. I returned in 2009 and have lived here since. There is a lot of interesting history in this area, especially in regards to Les Cathares. I want to receive people and invite them to see the culture and beauty of this country.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I speak French, some English, and Italian. I want to improve my English and Italian (and learn Portuguese.) I can practice any of these languages with you. I teach French classes and you can sit in on these if you want.
I love to show people the country, take them to events, and teach them about the culture and history.

    Help

I have a lot of little things to do around the house, so the work is varied.
    Some possibilities:
    - making the garden look nice
    - mowing the lawn
    - house chores
    - cooking
    - DIY jobs
-Participation in voluntary actions for the village and its heritage

If you are interested in helping me develop cultural or ecological projects in the area, we can discuss this. I have lots of things in mind.

    Accommodation

I have two different rooms that you can choose from. I can host one person or a couple in eatch room. There are two bathrooms, one will be yours.
It is important to me that we eat at least one meal a day together for cultural exchange. Lunch is the biggest meal of the day for me. If you want to cook for both of us, I consider that part of your working hours. I mostly make food from the freezer for myself, and you can do the same if you want. But you are welcome to take up the cooking.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is a bakery, two bars/cafes, grocery stores, and other shops. There are mutiple churches in town, along with a château. There is a small market in town every Saturday. There are also markets in nearby towns like Mirepoix and Espèraza that are worth seeing. I often go and would be happy to take you. There are often concerts, festivals, and other events nearby during the summer.

Every Thursday is Tock Night at one of the bars. (Tock is a board game.) I started this event for the newcomers to meet each other and locales. There is a large international community, with lots of English speakers in town.

I have two bikes that you can use. There are lots of walks to do in the area, and a swimming lake only a couple kilometres away.

There is no public transportation in town. The nearest train station is in Limoux or Pamiers , each about a half hour away. I can pick you up from there.
