    Description

Due to Covid-19 we are only excepting UK Workaways, hopefully this will change soon

Fancy helping in the beautiful Exmoor National park at a couple run riding stables? We need help with feeding the horses, cleaning the stalls, cleaning tack and grooming the horses. If your suitable we may ask you to help with some of the land management.
We have 2 dogs that need daily exercise.
We are located right in the heart of Exmoor, just 10 minutes away from the coastal village of Lynmouth. We have unprecedented access to the Moor, which you can explore on foot, bike or horseback.

Riding is available (in free time) for someone reasonably experienced (and of a suitable height and weight) and who has their own riding insurance and can bring their own riding helmet and suitable footwear. We prefer someone who has some experience of horses.

We also have a newborn baby and if you have childcare experience then even better.
We do most of the childcare but we may ask you to help with her and help in the home, doing task such as vacuuming, cooking and general cleaning.

Please note the roads are very twisty turny and up and down, if you get carsick it’s not the place for you. The nearest town for public transport is Lynton. Having your own car would be advantageous for you as there is not a lot of public transport

We are happy to pick you up from Lynton

    We don’t tend to accept

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Live as part of our family and be involved in everything that we do. The main area of help is with the horses and dogs. If you need to practice your English, there are plenty of chances to meet face to face with our customers. You can also benefit us by teaching us basic terms in your first language.

    Help

We require someone who is flexible and willing to learn. Who is willing to turn their hand to just about anything and doesn't mind getting a little dirty doing so. General tasks will include feeding the horses, keeping the stables tidy, cleaning the equipment we use and cleaning out their stables. For those who want to go out into the fields, you can assist in cutting grass and hedges and help maintain the electric fencing around the site. There is also a small amount of building maintenance to be done, such as repainting, especially during our winter months. Help in the home, helping with our baby, looking after the 2 dogs. For suitable candidates with enough riding experience you can help ride the horses.

    Accommodation

You will be housed in either our on site annex which you may have to share with 1 other (set up as a twin) or in our spare room again you may have to share with access to bathroom and combined kitchen/living area and access to a shared garden. You cannot smoke at the farm. We share dinner, cooking, washing dishes and domestic tasks. If you have a special diet, you will need to provide your special ingredients and be responsible to bring them to the dining room
There is wi-fi available in the property, but it should be noted there is poor mobile reception throughout the area. Because of the nature of our lifestyle, it often means getting up early for breakfast or grabbing lunch on the go, so at least you don't have to raise early, especially on well deserved days off!
Our dogs live in the house and often like to curl up in the bedrooms, so not ideal if you have allergy problems

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are located right at the edge of Exmoor, giving great access to outdoor activities on the Moor itself. We are also located a short drive away from the coast for those who enjoy the ruggedness of the North Devon coastline. Beaches are located approx 45 minutes drive away, with the nearest large town being Barnstaple 45 minutes drive away. Alternatively, there is Minehead (35 minutes drive away) which is a seaside resort or Taunton (1 hour drive) as the main largest town for the area.
There is no public transport links to us so having a car would be useful in the time you are here. There is a bus service however from Barbrook into Barnstaple and we would be happy to help taxi workers down to that point on days off. There are plenty of routes to cycle around the area also.

Please also note the roads here are very twisty and hilly, so if you get carsick then this area might not be good for you
