    Description

I live in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. This has been my home for the past 48 years. I am a senior who keeps active hiking, swimming, walking in nature. I have participated in dragon boat racing in the Canada Senior Games.
I am a retired elementary school teacher and a writer. I love meeting new people and sharing life experiences. Who knows - you may be a character in my 2nd novel!!!
The Yukon is called the 'Land of the Midnight Sun'. In summers, you can even go hiking at midnight.. I find Yukon to be a very magical scenic place. Hiking, fishing, camping, exploring the wilderness - there is so much to do. Your own vehicle would be helpful for I live on the outskirts of town but there are buses.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Yukon has become a place of many cultures. Whitehorse is a rapidly growing city but has lots of wilderness and is very rugged in places. We are north of the 60th parallel so have daylight in summer and darkness and cold in winter months.
Yukon is the place to learn about the Klondike Gold Rush, First Nations peoples, the wilderness. The city offers many activities throughout the year. Communities offer many entertainments. There is always something happening and so much to explore for the adventurous and open minded.

    Help

My priority at this moment is fixing up my home. The outside of my home is pretty raw and needs some tender loving care. I need someone who can help with raking, cutting grass and trees, trimming bushes, gardening and landscaping around my home. I want to grass my front yard.
Someone with carpentry skills. My greenhouse needs some tlc.
Someone who can paint - ie. a fence.
I will be working on these projects this summer - all outdoor work.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have a large home. I have a basement suite with your own bathroom and lots of privacy.
Kitchen facilities are on the main floor - shared.
It would be nice to do things together like shopping for the weekly food. In the summer, it's nice to eat on the back deck. I have a good sized front and backyard.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is lots of transportation if you do not have your own vehicle, and hiking trails are everywhere. However, your own v vehicle is preferable. I have space for vans, camper vans. Whitehorse offers many activities such as 'Arts in the Parks' - there are so many activities. There is a large French community in Whitehorse.
A few of the communities are within short driving distance - one to two hours. You may encounter wildlife on the roads when travelling to the communities.

Since I am now a single senior, I would prefer a couple. However, all accepted.
Due to my family visiting this summer, we would have to work out the dates of stay. I prefer short term stays for now for this is my first time on workaday. I may be open to longer stays if we are compatible. I do have a large beautiful home and love sharing stories.
