  • Description

Hello adventurers and travelers, my name is Maria and I’m a young artist turning self-sustainable at a farm in the beautiful eastern highplains of Colombia. At the moment I’m working on a business project that revolves around chilies and spicy sauces, my goal is to be able to work with a large community of campesinos and help improve the economic growth of my region. I’m looking for kind souls to help me take care of the farm, gardening and earth-building at a lovely ranch, not to far away from Bogotá, capital city.
Do you like spicy food? or just delicious food altogether? do you enjoy nature and breathtaking views? Are you artistically inclined, or maybe even just a little bit curious? Are you passionate or want to learn about and participate in self-sustainability and permaculture? Are you up for breaking a sweat along with us as me make great memories and learn together? Then my friend, don't hesitate to write, this place is for you.

Most of the time I’m living in a beautiful piece of land, in Somondoco, Boyaca named after my great-grandmother. The place was built as a vacation house for my family to get away from the city and all it’s rush and noise, so it is a property built for rest, leisure and just really just a spot to feel like you’ve come to paradise. Theres a pool, lovely views, endemic fruit trees and flowers, singing birds and lovely weather waiting here for you.

These lands once provided milk, fruit, vegetable and wood for the whole region under the care of my grandfather, who has now grown too tired to make the land productive. Later my father installed a Horse Sanctuary for the Andalusian Spanish race but he has his hands too full with city living to take proper care of the place, so now the horses live free in the nearby mountain. If you love horses and have experience riding and training we could arrange some time so you could spend it in their company.

Now it's turn for this generation to turn our weary eyes, tired of all the nonsense that seems to be spreading around, to new alternatives of living and caring for eachother, and that's when We start happening-
Luckily, I’m more than willing to work my ass off to turn this already beautiful piece of heaven into a sustainable one, and I’m looking for partners to help me restore balance and purpose into my life and into this tiny bit of the world that so kindly hosts us.

I’m an artist! So anything and everything creative is my specialty. I’m always in a creative mood, like a river that flows, ideas and projects flood the ranch, slowly and in waves they take shape, color and suddenly they come to live. I’m confident I can share a lot of my art with you, here at the farm I have something for everyone.

You will have the chance to be more in touch with nature and yourself while YOU make a significant difference in the development of sustainability of a wonderful region and an ambitious project.
You can learn from me and/or teach me about gardening, permaculture and sustainable ways of living.

Every knowledge is a blessing so all you may know is welcome.

I speak fluent Spanish, English and would love someone to practice German with.

We have tons of books on different topics and my family has a LOT of knowledge about Colombias political and economical history, this is also something I’m very passionate about. And who knows! Maybe YOU and your hard work can leave a permanent mark on the history of this region.

You'll definetly get to experience an important economical and historical part of the country, charged with ancestry and folklore, surrounded by beautiful expressions of nature such as rivers, waterfalls, mountains and rainforests. I’ll do my best to make sure you don’t miss anything.

My dream is to create and protect a balanced eco-system. To right the wrongs of generations past, to create a space for community living, trust, growth and love. hopefully in the near future I´ll be able to generate jobs and pass on the word of sustainability and balance. It is a lot of work but I am determined to do this. And right now we have a chance to learn how to do so responsibly, consciously.
And i’m really looking forward to see what we can achieve together.

As for our surroundings, words cannot possibly express how gorgeus the region is. But I'll try to give you a little taste of what is waiting here for you.
When the wind stops playing with the leaves and the fields, you can hear the river that lulls the region. It is a 30 min walk from the ranch to the river. A little further and you'll find the town of Somondoco, famous for the emeralds, treassure of these mountains. The gems seems to paint the valley up to it's peaks with an incredible variety of greens, present even in the eyes of the locals. The town is also known for its delicacies wich include blood sausage (surprisingly goos, trust me), arepa, fresh fruit ice cream and many many more...
The mountain is called Alto de Cristo Rey and the community recently built a small church on top of the mountain in an act of faith and humbling love. And it is truly a blessed place, since it supplies water for the region. This mountain is particularly close to my heart, and my life-goal and dream is to protect that source, establish a wildlife sanctuary and care for the diversity and beauty that characterizes Colombia. I try to go camping every chance I get, close to the top, to thank the hills for their protection and spend time in the forests. The views are magnificent and is a walk worth walking any direction you go.
The invitation to meet this Holy Mountain stands!

  • Help

My heart ached for calm and purpose.

I found the healing to my hurting in the hands of mother nature and and now, I am given the opportunity to learn from experience how to work the land. It's soon gonna be three years since I moved here and the only thing I miss from hectic city life is being able to interact with others, I’ve always been very social and even here I try not to isolate myself too much.

So if you're up to it I'd love to count with your help and presence on the ranch
Please read this carefully, for here I will explain what kind of help I am in need of:

Most of all I’d like someone to share all these blessings with; someone who will enjoy the quietness of the country, the marvelous views and the lovely weather.

I started a vegetable garden, aromatic herbs and a greenhouse to work at.
I aim to produce my own food, and am learning how to do so responsibly.

Expect early mornings and warm, sunny days. Fruits and flowers come to the occasion too.
My hot pepper production has always been outstanding since me and my family, we LOVE spicy food, this love soon turned the hot and spicy fruits into amazing delicious sauces (still pretty hot and spicy) this was a turning point in our lives.

At some point we got a little too crazy about it and my family decided to start a business. before we knew it, the whole place was covered in chillies and now we are learning how to balance biodiversity as we grow.

It's our responsibility to learn how to grow food responsibly and we are set on our goal to turn this into a self sustainable, biodinamic center, focused on these fantastic sauces, but also exploring everything we can produce when we work with nature instead of against it. We have a dream of a balanced ecosystem working in harmony with a human community. I like to make the most out of our workaway experience so we really do work hard every step of the way.

We have crops already growing that need constant watering and care, they're great listeners and need help keeping the pests away!

I’m currently and constantly remodeling my home! And I'm using this opportunity to learn as much about houses as I can. Many things happen in the house, for it is here where the human energy rests and feeds, some of the projects involve:
    .Loads of painting
    .An outside kitchen
    .Lots of carpintery
Are you interested in learning about bio-construction? Let's plan something crazy together, see if we can see it through! How bout a dog kennel? a chicken coop? a little patio for lazy afternoons? Our limits egin when we stop stretching our imagination.

Other tasks like harvesting mangos, passion fruit, guava and other fruits for eating, doing the dishes, recycling, helping me maintain a nice, clean space to live in, will come up often since self-care is a daily task.

It is really important that you help me giving and spreading love to all living things in the ranch! I have chickens, dogs, and cats to look after; and an ever growing plant family!

I’m an artist, and there's always something going on, you're most welcome to join me in my creativity sessions. I can provide materials for you to play with and experiment.

I am super ambitious because I see and understand how lucky I am to live such a dream.
Still I try to take each day and project as it comes, just the daily farm routine is already a lot of work, so here I am, reaching out, hoping to find someone willing to give me a hand in exchange of food, shelter and everything else I could offer... as a community or a family we work and so we live too.

I'd love to get to know you. What do you love? What moves and inspires you? What are your dreams? I hope to share this and so much more at my table with you.

There are many Houses in the property but you will be staying at my home. You'll have your own room and might have to share a bathroom depending on how many guests I'm hosting.
I love to be surrounded by the flow of life and energy workaway allows me to witness and be a part of.
I can provide sheets, blankets, pillows and probably towels.

There's no internet in my house at the moment, but there is a spot at the farm where you may have access to a wifi connection.

I drive to the town's plaza and get organic, fresh ingridients to work with. It's usually really cheap.
I'd love for us to cook together and share the table.

I cook mostly vegetarian but my family brings meat to the table often.

If you have specific dietary needs we can learn and expand our recipe book together. I love a challenge and learning new recipes, so I’ll be happy to accomodate your needs.
I love cooking and eating is a very important ritual to me!
Every day is a special occasion and I love to share and try to always feast and celebrate at the table.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The weather is hot and wet during the day, but cool at night and it never lacks raining. Up in the mountain it gets much colder at night!!!

There is a pool that we enjoy of, which makes the hot dry summer that much more lovely. So bring your swimsuit!
A great way to spend your time in here is walking and getting to know all the treassures the region has to offer.

My family comes every other weekend, my grandparents, my father and my younger brothers will be here, but don't worry, there's enough room for all of us.

Transportation drives by 2, sometimes 3 times per day back to the city through Guateque and is available right in front of the entrance gate.

We're close to Guateque, Garagoa, and Tenza, three beautiful towns worth visiting (specially on market days) transport is available there too.

The region is also well known for the emerald mines and there’s a couple other towns you could visit for eco-tourism, bird watching and such. I’ll let you know all about it when you get here.

May all your adventures bring you closer home, and great winds till we meet!
