  • Description

We are Patrick and Nikki, and our two kids Joni (3yo) and Finn (1yo). We run a 45-bed hostel located in Drumnadrochit in the Highlands of Scotland, half way down the picturesque and world-famous Loch Ness.
We're a friendly, busy, but relaxed and family-run hostel looking for happy, hard-working, friendly people to come and help out and be part of our team. If you're kind and happy to lend a hand, you can stay as long as you want! But we look for an 8-week minimum commitment, so that we can spend time training you and then you'll enjoy your time here so much more, doing interesting work rather than just the easy, boring bits.

We are very hands-on with the hostel and we try to give the place a relaxed, family vibe. Sometimes we're there 18 hours in a day and other days we leave it in the capable hands of the team while we deal with normal family life. But either way you'll see a lot of us, the kids and our new puppy Dougal!

Our staff are the life-blood of our hostel. We pride ourselves on our amazing staff ratings and that's all down to the team who work hard, enjoy having fun with the guests, and generally love living in the Highlands. It's the ultimate win-win-win scenario.

In the summer we have 4-6 staff living on site and in the winter we have 2-3. They come from all around the world and always become very close, both to us and to one another. You can read our Staff Book when you arrive to see for yourself!

When you're not on shift, you can indulge in your hobbies, chill out by Loch Ness (do some Nessie-spotting!), plus there's lots of interaction with guests, and we have a great bar too with over 75 Scottish beers!

There are a few pubs and a supermarket in the village. There are also fun Highland activities like shinty and Scottish country dancing classes! Come in August and you can come to the village's Highland Games!

  • Help

The work is split between cleaning, reception duties, bar work and general hostel maintenance which can be anything from updating the staff board to gardening. In return for helping out for 30 hours a week (6 hours a day, 5 days a week), we offer free accommodation + breakfast + full use of all the hostel facilities.

  • Accommodation

Our team have a private staff dorm and their own kitchen. Breakfast is provided.
The staff don't have to, but they often choose to cook together, each taking responsibility for one night a week, which means less cooking for everyone, and it's usually cheaper too. But this is absolutely not compulsory.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The hostel is ideally located for Great Glen Way walkers, and there are tons and tons of others beautiful walks in the area. There is the 3rd most popular castle in Scotland (Urquhart Castle) within walking distance of the hostel, as are various boat tours of Loch Ness. Within 1.5 hours of the hostel you can reach Culloden Battlefield, Glen Coe, Glenfinnan Viaduct (aka the Harry Potter railway), Ben Nevis, the Isle of Skye, Eilean Donan Castle, Fort Augustus, Glen Affric and much more. Inverness (the nearest city) is a 20-minute bus ride, or you can ride with us whenever we go in (which is a lot, for supplies!).
