    Description

We are a small family: I'm Ronja (German), my husband Joris (French), our two years daughter, and our Australian Shepherd, Kala and puppy Mala. Kala is a bit shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she'll love you. We've moved to our land in central Portugal in June 2024. Our property includes a ruin, a small forest, and some flat land with olive trees and a well.

We have a compost toilet, a beautiful fully equipped outdoor kitchen, a wooden "gypsy trailer" with a bathroom and hot shower. Also, we have a small vegetable garden, which we want to expand this year. The land and the house have a lot of potential, and we would like some help!

Our vision is to create a sanctuary rooted in permaculture principles—a space where friends and family can come to recharge and live in harmony with nature. We delight in involving our daughter in the process of growing our own food and preserving it for the entire year. Our goal is to achieve a mostly self-sufficient lifestyle as soon as possible.

Our current major initiative involves renovating a section of our property, emphasizing a natural approach using cob and wood. Additionally, we're excited to develop this year's vegetable garden. We are seeking individuals or couples with experience in building, gardening, or childcare.

During your stay, you'll be accommodated in our campervan, which is equipped with a bed, couch, small table, kitchen, and bathroom.

We're an active family, always bustling with activities, yet we cherish our peaceful evenings. Shared meals are a highlight of our day, and you're warmly invited to join us. We'd also appreciate assistance in meal preparation and cleanup.

We're just 15 minutes away from a beautiful lake, perfect for swimming and usually quite empty of people.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We love good vegetarian and vegan food, and mealtime is our family time. We also enjoy playing guitar and singing, sewing, doing sports, dancing, and going for hikes. You are more than welcome to join us in our daily routines and activities. We are very open-minded and always happy to have good conversations. Our family language is English, but we both speak German and French, and we are eager to learn Portuguese.

    Help

We are currently seeking assistance with a range of tasks including rebuilding a section of our house, tending to our vegetable garden, and managing various small projects around the property. Additionally, we need help caring for our 2-year-old daughter. If you have a passion for cooking, your help in the kitchen would be greatly welcomed.

Joris, a skilled landscaper, is adept at handling various tasks, but we would greatly appreciate an extra hand or some expert carpentry advice.
