  • Description

We, Lyndsey and Red, are a couple in central Virginia blessed with 18 acres of woods and fields. We aspire to create a sustainable, positive, educational, and artistic cooperative that helps to promote diversity, understanding, and creativity. We have 4 acres of field, and 14 acres of woods where we are building alternative structures, raising happy animals, and growing organic food. We live in a very wet area of Virginia that is always green and lush, and we are blessed with two wonderful rivers nearby that we love to swim in and float down. There is a wonderful college town ten minutes away that offers decent shopping and cultural experiences like open mike nights and art galleries. there are many wonderful hikes nearby, and the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Trail can be visited on day trips. Richmond and Charlottesville are close enough to access on day trips as well, but far enough away to avoid the city craziness. Accommodations are a cozy room in our three bedroom ranch-style house or something more rustic like a cabin or tent site if you'd like more privacy. We both love to make music and can make some pretty noise, and enjoy doing so with others.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I speak a bit of Spanish and am eager to learn more, and we are always ready to help people learn and understand the deep cultural aspects of Central Virginia. Farmville specifically has a tumultuous and rich racial/educational history that is front and center.

  • Help

We have a million projects that range from exciting to dirty to downright tedious, and everything in between. Gardening skills and carpentry skills and an affinity for animals are always welcome, but honestly, a willingness to work and learn,(and teach) is all that's required.

  • Accommodation

We have a room in our home that is clean and cozy, or, if one wanted more privacy, we have a separate cottage that has a 1/2 bath and a kitchenette. We also have a rustic octagonal hut in the woods, or plenty of tent sites if you are into rustic. there is also an outdoor shower in the greenhouse that is lovely. We try to eat healthy good food and focus on eating what we grow. We are omnivores, but can accommodate vegetarian or vegan diets. We love to cook and welcome those who want to cook as well. We enjoy family meals and eating together, but again, respect those who want more privacy.
