All the family welcomed me very nicely and warmly during the 3 weeks I stayed in Skrolsvik !
It was a real pleasure to help in the gardens, for general cleanings, taking care of the chickens and the rooster, helping with the boats,... there is always something to do to give a hand ! And the tasks are clearly explained.
The place is relaxing,
… read more peaceful and you can enjoy free time for your own and I was easily able to hike, enjoy midnight sun, visit the surroundings, enjoy the sunny days,... I had access at all the facilities of the house and the balcony is a very good place 🙃
They are great persons, very helpful and we had very good moments, like fishing, exchanging about norwegian culture, history of the village, etc...
I was sad to say bye bye! 🙁 I will definitely like to come back to see Kristin and Gunnar again ! Thanks again for the good experience !

I'm pretty sure I can describe this month as one of the best months of my life. I could not have imagined my first workaway experience to be any better :)
Gunnar and Kristin were the perfects hosts, introducing me to the local culture, showing me around, helping me to plan my trips around the island, cooking delicious meals for me...
The island

Work-wise I got what I came for: chopping firewood, snow shuffling, painting... Basically being outside the whole time, which was just lovely :)
I stayed the whole month of March, which turned out to be the perfect choice. You can almost literally see the daylight getting longer day by day, but still enjoy the beauty of the auroras. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Benedikt is a wonderful, hardworking, experienced woman. It was great having her, with her good mood, positive approach, energy and skills. Benedikt is a person you can trust. Social and independent.
Gunnar and Kristin are taking care of making your stay a great experience! And so do Gunnars parents who live nextdoors.
You live with the family and get introduced to quite some North Norwegian habits, mostly based on the fact of living on an island.
The village Skrolsvik is situated at the end of the road -literally-, the nearest shop is some
… read more 20 km away, and so is the school.
Arctic gardening, pruning, potato harvest, translating documentation, constructing a platform in the mountains for a Lavvu tent, halibut fishing, ...a lot of variation and a lot of fun.
Nature around is flabbergasting, the sea, the islands, the lakes, the vegetation, flora and fauna, the sky, the mountains, the aurora borealis, ... Freetime was an invitation to hike !

Marketa and Kazim are a very friendly and high spirited couple. They work well in pair as well as individually. They helped with gardening, constructing, painting and even artistic work. It was a great pleasure having these fine young people around the house!

Amazing family, beautiful island and the best time spent in Norway!
This all was our experience with Kristin and Gunar on island Senja. They are both kind, generous, helpful and friendly people. We are very grateful for time spent with them and all their family in friendly and lovely village Skrolsvik.

This was our first workaway experience and we couldn't be more lucky to have found Gunnar and Kristin! Two amazing hosts living in Skrolsvik a beautiful place situated in the south of Senja island. We stayed here from the beginning of December to the end of January two month in the “Mørketid”. The first week we helped to prepare a community party

We also helped around the house with small task, build a “sawchair”, fixed the door of the boathouse, collected plates from the roof, helped drying halibut to make the traditional “Rekling” (delicious dried halibut), fed the chicken and visited the parents of Gunnar (very kind and amazing people). We stayed in one of the cabins which are very cozy and had a lot of delicious local food, included moose, halibut, self made salads, herb salt, jam and much more. At Christmas eve we were invited to share the evening with the heartily welcoming family, where we ate the traditional “Lutefisk”, build a Snölykta (snowlantern), a snowman and learnt about the traditional Norwegian christmas :)
Gunnar and Kristin are very kind and beautiful people with a great sense of humor and shared a lot of knowledge about the place and living there! This place is highly recommended.
Thank you very much Gunnar and Kristin for your amazing hospitality and this unique experience! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

It was really nice having Marie and Edward with us! They are experienced workawayers, eager to experience new tasks, environments and people. They were here for only two weeks, but we feel we got to know them quite well. They both have many skills and are fast learners. But most of all, they are independent and positive young adults. We would be

Gunnar and Kristin were such kind hosts! We spent 2 weeks in Skrolsvik at the beginning of December and had a great time.
We shared a nice, fully-equipped cottage with another workaway couple and had plenty of time off to explore the beautiful area. We were happy to help Kristin and Gunnar by preparing and cleaning after a community party,
