  • Description

    Environmental Restoration Project
We are Rob, Amanda and Iona. We moved to Somerset five years ago from London/Herts to the beautiful village of Oakhill, and we love it! We enjoy the beautiful landscape and the creative sociable spirit that infuses Somerset. We have 3 lovely daughters (2 of them now adults) and two sometimes over-friendly dogs; a flat-coat retriever Oscar and a westie called Freddie, we love walking them in nearby Harridge, Cranmore or Beacon Hill woods. We both have a background in creative arts, particularly theatre, play-writing and visual arts. We own a beautiful yurt. We are needing help to restore a beautiful but neglected piece of land with historical interest in Oakhill in Somerset, England. The land adjoins our home and consists of two lakes, an 18th century grotto, woodland and wild grassland. Already a sanctuary for wildlife including wild deer and orchids, one of our aims is to regenerate and enhance the land's biodiversity. This summer we are hoping to do a lot of clearing and preparing the way for wildflower meadows and an orchard. We are seeking willing, practical, nature loving volunteers to come to live and work with us during the Summer and early Autumn months to help us develop the project to its next stage.

    What else ...

We live in the village of Oakhill, Somerset on the eastern edge of the Mendip Hills; it is situated in the middle of several centres of historic and cultural interest, including Bath, Wells, Frome, Glastonbury, Bruton and Bristol. We are also within easy distance of the Somerset Levels, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey, Stonehenge and many areas of natural beauty.
There are buses but a car is very useful if you want to explore the area. We are willing to help with lifts where possible.
