    Description

Hello! We are a fun-loving family of six living in a unique 200-year-old home in the heart of Rathkeale, County Limerick. Our family includes four children aged 9, 11, 14, and 19, and life here is always busy, active, and full of adventure.

We spend as much time outdoors as possible. We love horse riding, hiking, exploring new places, and making the most of the beautiful Irish countryside. Animals are a huge part of our lives, and our home is shared with cats, dogs, chickens, and our much-loved ponies. We're also enjoying the challenge of creating a thriving vegetable garden and are always excited to learn new skills along the way.

Our kitchen is the heart of our home. I'm an enthusiastic home cook and avid baker, so there's usually something delicious in the oven, and we love sharing homemade meals around the table. Whether it's fresh bread, cakes, or hearty family dinners, food is one of the ways we enjoy bringing people together.

Living in a beautiful 200-year-old house also means there's always another project waiting! Alongside gardening and caring for the animals, we're always tackling jobs around the house, from painting and decorating to general maintenance and DIY. We'd love to welcome people with practical skills, creative ideas, or simply a willingness to learn and get involved—there's always something interesting to help on.

One of the things we're most looking forward to through Workaway is meeting people from around the world. We love learning about different cultures, hearing people's stories, sharing meals, and building genuine friendships and connections that last long after the visit. We hope our children grow up with an appreciation of different ways of life and the confidence that comes from welcoming people into our home.

Although we live in a small village, we're perfectly placed for exploring Ireland. Rathkeale sits on the main bus route between Limerick City and Kerry, making it easy to discover the Wild Atlantic Way, charming towns, and beautiful countryside. We also have wonderful neighbours and a welcoming local community that we're proud to be part of.

If you enjoy family life, animals, fresh air, good conversations, homemade food, and don't mind getting your hands dirty in the garden, around the ponies, or helping us breathe new life into our old home, we'd love to welcome you into our family and share this adventure together. We believe the best part of Workaway is the exchange—not just of help, but of ideas, experiences, laughter, and lifelong friendships. We can't wait to meet you!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Our family embraces a traditional Irish country lifestyle and country pursuits, we're always happy to share it with our guests. Horses and animals are at the heart of our lives, and much of our free time is spent riding, caring for our ponies, walking the countryside, and enjoying the outdoors. We love exploring Ireland's rich history and heritage, visiting castles, ancient sites, country estates, and places that tell the story of Ireland's past.

Traditional Irish music is another passion of ours, and whenever we can, we enjoy local music sessions and introducing visitors to this wonderful part of Irish culture. Whether it's a walk through the hills, a day at a local agricultural show, exploring a historic village, or simply chatting over homemade food after a day's help, we hope you'll experience the warmth, traditions, and slower pace of rural Irish life.

  • Help

    Help

We'd love Workawayers to become part of our daily family life! The help varies depending on the season and the projects we're helping on, and we'll usually help alongside you, although there may be times when you're happy to help independently.

Tasks might include helping in the vegetable garden, caring for our ponies, chickens, dogs, and cats, tidying and organising indoor and outdoor spaces, general gardening, and keeping the grounds looking their best. As our beautiful 200-year-old home is always a project in progress, there's often painting, decorating, maintenance, practical skills are always appreciated (although enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are just as important!).

No two days are the same here, and we enjoy helping together, sharing meals, learning from each other, and making the experience fun and rewarding for everyone.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Your accommodation is certainly a little different! You'll have your own private bedroom at the top of our house's original tower—a cosy and unique space full of character. Reaching it involves climbing a set of steep stairs and passing through a trap door, with access via another bedroom, so it's definitely not your average guest room!

If you're looking for something a little unusual and don't mind a bit of adventure, we think you'll love it. It's one of the many charming quirks of our 200-year-old home, and guests often find it becomes one of the most memorable parts of their stay.
