    Description

    Hi there, and welcome!

We are Susanne and Arwed. Stay with us and our chickens, geese and other birds near the shore of lake selent!

Susanne is an environmental scientist and works from home for an analytical laboratory. Arwed is a marine biologist and sometimes home, sometimes away for various projects.

We are renovating our former village pub to become a culture and nature hub in the countryside, to provide education and events regarding conservation.

We are active participants in the local community, involved in local politics and with the voluntary firefighters. You will meet other folks from around town and can get involved with their projects, too, if you like.

We are always working on what we refer to as our "botanical lawn", collecting and establishing endangered plants in our garden, to benefit insect and bird population. You can learn the german names and properties of the local flora and fauna with us, and explore methods of organic gardening.

If a project comes up during your stay, you may have the opportunity to gain some eventmanagement skills.

Sometime we take care of orphaned baby birds who survived a cat's attack on their nest. Susanne has become quite proficient at rehabilitating nestlings, and will gladly share her knowledge with you.

  • Help

    Help

You can support us in our everyday activities with taking care of our birds and plants in the garden and our large greenhouse.

We could also use some help with renovating the house and sheds. Qualified help is especially welcome, of course, but you can always start from scratch with us.

There are always little projects for our culture/nature hub, like building a book exchange box, or some info panels for our rare plants.

A larger project that has yet to be started is our citizen science initiative for gathering environmental information, such as water quality samples from local water boddies, or weather data.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own room to yourself, and a bathroom on the hallway that you will be using not exclusively, but primarily for yourself. Please look after both during your stay.

You are welcome to share our meals with us, or prepare your own food. You can join us at our unregular mealtimes or live on your own scedule.
While we do not strictly exclude meat from our diet, we are continuously working towards increasing the vegetable portion in our diet, hence we are always curious for new ways of cooking and new recipes!

We do occasionally need some time to ourselves, and will respect if you require some "me-time", too.

Stable WIFI is avaiable via an LTE-router. Speeds are sufficient for streaming, 4K might be asking too much. We are both using it to work from home, so far it has served us very well.

All rooms are strictly non smoking! Please only smoke in the parking lot.

The best way to spend your freetime around here is to go for a swim or just relax at the beach! If you bring your gear, you can go wind- or kite surfing! The beach is only half an hour away, if you borrow one of our bikes!

There is also some nice short hikes through the surrounding forrests, and the beautiful highlands of "Holsteinische Schweiz" are not far away.

If you need to travel a greater distance, there are buses going to the city of Kiel, or we can help you find a ride share.

We are looking forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your stay with us!
