We are a Hare Krishna community of 120 people of different nationalities in the middle of the beautiful Belgian Ardennes. We are renovating a beautiful castle in its original glory and around it we have a bakery, boutique, restaurant, guesthouse and a farm. Most every night there singing and music which you may freely join in the evenings. In exchange for your help we can offer a place to sleep in our dormitory and vegetarian meals. Please note that, although we are obviously a religious community, we receive thousands of tourists and visitors each year, and welcome everyone with skills or talents to help us out in several of the above mentioned enterprises.
The oldest part of our community is our vegetable garden, which originally was a monastery style walled in garden. The castle is 165 years old and in need of many repairs and to be kept tidy and clean. In 2002 the guesthouse was built which houses the sleeping place for the men whereas the ladies have their sleeping facility in the castle.
Tell us a bit about yourself, about what you could help us with and which of our enterprises is best suited to your nature.

We are a very international community with approx. 20 nationalities here at any given time, which offers many interesting exchanges.
Since this is very clearly a bit of India in the Belgian Ardennes and we have many cultural programs, Indian musical events, visiting teachers and of course many Indian vegetarian meals throughout the year, our volunteers also get a little taste of Indian culture.
Our volunteers can always find people to answer any questions they might have about our culture, philosophy, practices etc., but at the same time they are also completely free to not participate in any of the activities of our community if they have no interest.
We have a very big organic vegetable garden. There is a lot of work to do in a garden of this size, so anyone interested in learning something about organic gardening is more than welcome.
The work in the garden will be combined with taking care of our cows and incredibly sweet oxen. For those who have an interest, we can teach you how to drive our ox cart or milk our cows by hand.
We normally work 10.00 - 13.30 (lunch break) 16:00 - 18:00 (break) 19:00 - 20:00
A lot of people volunteer to work these times but as a workawayer you can opt to work 5 hrs within this framework.
We can make exceptions to the core hours by prior arrangement If you have online educational courses etc.
Please respect that as a working farm in Belgium it isn't always possible for volunteers to work only when it's sunny or for all the volunteers on site to have the same day off.
Mainly English, although with 25 different nationalities one could pick up a bit of Russian, Polish, French, Dutch.... at the same time.
One of the biggest assets of our community, besides the beautiful country side and the wonderful castle, is the fact that we are truly a community and most of the volunteers who spend some time here, become part of that community for the duration of their stay. They easily bond with the other members without any expectations of them converting to our religion. Living in a close-knit community like ours with approx. 120 members is a special experience for everyone.
You can contact us for more details if you would like extra information.
(Many people ask for directions and the phone number of our drivers but we can't list them on the main page)
