    Description

Hello, we are a young group of alternative-thinking people who have founded an organization called „Pewün“ in which we are dedicated to the recycling of organic waste in the fifth region. We have about 12 composters that we have to move weekly. We are looking for volunteers who want to live the experience of knowing a world close to permaculture, to help us with composting, but also with the farming we face every day. We are now 9 people in charge of this project, but we need all the possible hands because there is a whole diverse bunch of work to do.

You will directly live on the farmland together with the farm owners and project members who are a friendly young couple with their little boy named Jesus, Diego and Borja. Jesus and Diego are both young psychologists with a lot of interest towards sustainability and very open-minded persons.
If you are a nature and animal lover and looking for a peaceful place to be and work, this is the right address.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Here we have to share a huge knowledge about the creation of compost out of organic waste, moreover you will learn a lot about farm life, taking care of animals and vegetables, a lot of techniques about permaculture and a lot more. Besides this you can improve your Spanish, get an inside of the Chilean culture and an alternative lifestyle with a lot of appreciation and love for each other. We would like to welcome you to our home and learn about you and your culture you are bringing to Chile.

We have a lot to do here and the good news is that there is a big variety of interesting tasks, so everybody can find something that fits to their interests and talents. There are some basics which have to be done every morning like feeding the animals (our beautiful lady pig, the curious chickens, the two lovely dogs and the cuddly cat) watering the veggie garden and orchard, check if the compost needs to be watered and also water our very new project: the worm boxes, in which we try out another technique of creating compost. Of course the organic compost plays a big role, so every weekend we have to move and filter the different stages of compost. If you stay for a whole month, you will get to know the whole cycle of how we deal with the compost and how the results look like in the end of the month.

Moreover there accrue many more tasks from day to day like saving seeds, harvesting veggies and fruit (depending on the season), repairing fences, building more worm boxes, seeding new plants, planting grown seedlings into the veggie garden, repairing pumps, building a new chicken house, making eco-bricks and much more like a future project of beekeeping. If you are open to help us in our project and in the creation of a sustainable life you will definitely have a lot of fun and an interesting time here and hopefully we will share ideas, inspire each other and exchange knowledge.

Near to the house we have a very nice campsite on the farm. If you don’t have an own tent, we will give you a waterproofed one. We also can give you a very warm sleeping bag and mats. The campsite is beautiful, equipped with a kitchen including drinking water and an old-fashioned fridge, also there is electricity. You can use the bathroom in the house. A future project is to build a compost toilet for the campsite.
If you don’t have internet on your phones you can use the WIFI in the house.
You will be also given food for three meals a day and you can cook independently in the outdoor kitchen, but we also like to share meals together from time to time.

    What else ...

In your free time and days off you can do a lot besides chilling at the campsite and enjoying the peace at our farm. As we are surrounded by mountains and hills there are a lot of opportunities for hiking, trekking or running. Even on the farm you can be active in sports as we have a climbing wall which is just on the campsite. If you are interested in arts the city of Valparaiso welcomes you after an easy metro ride to the sea side. The city of Viña del Mar with its beaches is even closer to our place and you can reach Santiago after an one and half hours bus trip from there.

If you need a ride to Viña del Mar we can give you a lift by car as we need to go there regularly. Otherwise you can just stay at the farm and relax as this is the best place to do this.

If you want to make an extra income, we can give you an industrial oven and tools to make bread or handicrafts, as long as it is outside of your work schedule.

So, if you are interested in participating in „Pewün“, we would be very happy to hear from you.
