    Description

We feel lucky to live in the beautiful Faroe Islands, and we think any Workawayer who visits will fall in love with the peaceful atmosphere, dramatic landscapes, and friendly local culture. Our home is in Tórshavn, the capital, which is small but full of charm—with cozy cafés, local shops, and great walking paths. From our house, you can reach the city center in just 10 minutes on foot, and there are excellent bus connections for exploring other parts of the islands.

We love the calm pace of life here and how close we are to nature—whether it’s walking along the seaside, hiking in the hills, or just watching the changing weather and ocean views from our home.

Our little family includes me (Katrin), my partner Stefan, and our five-year-old son Lukas. I’m studying to become a nurse, and Stefan works at sea, so we lead a fairly simple but active life. Lukas brings lots of energy and joy into the house! We’re relaxed, down-to-earth people who enjoy good food, quiet evenings, and the occasional adventure outside. We hope that a Workawayer staying with us will feel like a welcome part of the household while also enjoying their own space and time to explore

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We’re excited about the cultural exchange that comes with hosting a Workawayer and getting to know someone from a different part of the world. While we live a fairly quiet and simple life, we enjoy good conversations, sharing meals, and exchanging ideas and everyday routines.

As a family, we’d love to share what life is like in the Faroe Islands—how things work here, what daily life looks like, and how we balance work, family, and nature. We can introduce you to local foods, teach you a few Faroese words or phrases, and give you tips on places to explore in and around Tórshavn.

In return, we’re curious to learn about where you come from, what your daily life is like, and hear about your culture, traditions, and experiences. We hope to broaden our own understanding of the world through the people we welcome into our home—and for our son Lukas to grow up being open and interested in others.

  • Help

    Help

We’re looking for someone who can help us with general household tasks and support our daily routines. Since we both have busy schedules—me with nursing studies and my partner working at sea—an extra pair of hands can really make a difference for us.

The help we’re looking for includes:

General cleaning (vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen)

Doing laundry (washing, folding, and putting clothes away)

    Occasional window cleaning.

Light gardening (weeding, tidying the outdoor space—no experience needed)

Simple maintenance work like painting or organizing.

Helping prepare dinner a few nights a week.

We aim for around 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week, but this may vary a little depending on what’s needed—some days might be lighter :)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You’ll have your own private space on the top floor of our home, which includes a bright and comfortable bedroom and a private bathroom. There is a beautiful view overlooking Tórshavn and the sea, and you’ll have plenty of peace and privacy when you need it.

Our home is clean, safe, and located in a quiet neighborhood just a 10-minute walk from the city center. There are also great public bus connections nearby if you want to explore further.

We provide all your bedding, towels, and anything else you’ll need to feel comfortable.

Food is included during your stay. We usually cook simple, home-style meals with meat, fish, and vegetables. We’re not vegetarian or vegan, so please keep that in mind when considering your stay. We’re happy to share meals together when it fits, but you're also welcome to eat on your own if you prefer.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your free time, there’s a lot to enjoy in and around Tórshavn. The city is small but full of charm, with cozy cafés, local shops, a nice harbor area, and beautiful walks. You can take hikes, visit local museums, or just enjoy the peaceful pace of Faroese life. The bus system is reliable and free in Tórshavn, which makes it easy to get around without needing a car.

We usually keep things quiet in the evenings and live a relaxed, family-oriented lifestyle. Our son goes to bed early, and we like to keep the home calm after that. We expect basic cleanliness and respect for shared spaces.

We haven’t hosted a Workawayer before, but we’re open-minded and excited to learn and grow through the experience. Good communication and mutual respect are most important to us-we want this to be a positive and enjoyable time for both sides.

A little personal note: I (Katrin) was an au pair myself about six years ago, so I understand what it’s like to be away from home, living with a new family in a different country. That experience taught me so much, and I always appreciated when hosts were kind, respectful, and made me feel included. Because of that, I want to offer the same to anyone who stays with us-we’ll do our best to make you feel welcome, respected, and comfortable here.
