  • Description

We are currently welcoming volunteers who are interested in joining a live-in community for a minimum of six months, with priority given for those looking longer term...

We are a land-based project that is engaged in exploring what it means to be a part of the collective Threshold we as humans are in. How we can explore creating this new world and new way of living, on the earth with each other and in better balance with all of life.

We are an environmental and human awareness project with a deep love and respect for the Natural world and the belief that all life is to be respected and protected. We are located in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire and we offer a space for people to connect with nature and learn more about it. We provide fantastic opportunities for volunteers to take their own initiative, to be creative and to learn more about our impact on the environment, as well as taking personal introspective time to listen to our own inner landscapes.

Our site is four acres in size and surrounded on all sides by 200,000 acres of ancient forest. You can walk out of our gates directly into the forest and roam for miles. We are fairly remote, with our nearest neighbours living half a mile away, but we are within easy striking distance of a local town with organic supplies as well as being close enough to Bristol, Gloucester and Ross-on-Wye.

There are lots of ongoing tasks in all areas; general land maintenance, planting, weeding, lake management, hedging, building, stone walling, etc. We also have many ongoing projects involving carpentry, both on the land and in the buildings. We have an amazing round house structure called an Earth lodge which is a green eco-build. Help with cleaning, cooking and house maintenance is also part of the help here. We also make sure that there is a good balance for each person of the more physical 'hard' tasks alongside lighter help. Accommodation is a caravan of your own.

If this speaks to you, we do have some baseline requirements... Please only get in touch if you already have the 7 requirements below.

    1. To be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months or more.
    2. That you want to live deeply immersed in nature without the stimulus of mainstream life
    3. To not have dependents or work that means you would regularly need to ‘engage in the world’ f
    4. That you enjoy and can do physical hard work outdoors in all weathers.
    5. That you are comfortable living simply in all seasons.
    6. That you are engaged in your own inner work as a human.
    7. That you know what ‘sitting in circle’ means, have experience of it and are up for it.

If reading this makes you come alive and awakens your hearts longing, and you feel inspired to offer yourself in service to the great then please apply.
Please do get in touch if this alights something in you - we'd love to hear about you and what you could bring to the community.

if we accept you then you will arrive and quarantine for 2 weeks and then be fully free to engage with everyone

  • Help

The help is mostly land-based, clearing bracken and bramble, weeding, tending to the trees and the infrastructures here. Some of it is simple and easy and other bits require a bit of experience and physical help.

Skills that are always appreciated here are:
~ Food growing (we have a personal community garden)
    ~ Carpentry
    ~ General DIY
    ~ Land care
    ~ Cleaning and house care
