Description
안녕하세요, I'm Hadar, I'm 59, mother of 3, grandmother of 2, mother-in-law of 2. I have worked professionally as a clinical dietician and a social worker in the past. Currently I enjoy a slower paced life, working at home as a translator of medical documents from Hebrew to English. Most days I wake up to each day with no particular agenda other than a few hours' work on the computer. That leaves me room to tend and appreciate my houseplants, the view of the trees and the chirping of birds outside my living room window, and to think about what I'd like to prepare to eat today. I like going to second-hand clothes shops.
I lived a few years in the States as a youth, so I have a small American part to my identity. My sister and dad still live in the States.
Out of my 3 daughters, two live in Haifa and the youngest still comes home on weekends. My third daughter lives in Canada with her family.
I love the part of Karmiel that I live in because it is quiet and green, and because the people that live on my street are a representation of the different types of people you find in Israel – Hebrew speakers, Arab speakers, and Russian speakers. You will hear Russian more often than the other languages. Karmiel is surrounded by tall hills or tiny mountains, I'm not sure how to classify them. This makes the surrounding view very nice. As much as I enjoy a couple of days in Tel Aviv as a tourist, the view of the mountains as the train approaches Karmiel expands my heart (that's a Hebrew idiom).Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
My view of humanity is best described as Buddhist. I will be able to share with you my take on Israeli society and history through this prism. I can share my family's history, which exemplifies the history of Jews who came here from eastern Europe in the first decades of the 20th century. If you want to practice your Hebrew or learn basics, I will be more than happy to help. I can introduce you to cultural aspects and advise you where you can find those that you are interested in. I can teach you to crochet. You are invited to join me for family get-togethers.
Help
Through kdramas, I fell in love with the country, Korean language, culture, and history. I am learning Korean and I am looking for a native Korean speaker to speak Korean with in everyday life. I would also appreciate if you help with washing the floor as needed, since I have difficulty with this task. I will be more than happy to eat Korean dishes you make, although that's not something I expect you to do.

I live in a 2.5 bedroom, third floor walk-up. You will be staying in the small half bedroom, accessed through the living room. There is a bed, closet, shelves for books etc.. If needed, I can provide a foldaway desk. We will share the living spaces, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. There is a washing machine. There is very good Wi-Fi. The kitchen has most cooking utensils needed. You will be invited to use basic food items like spices, sugar, oil, etc. You will have a shelf in the fridge for your food items.
What else ...
Transportation options are easily accessible within a few minutes' walking distance (city busses and some inter-city busses like Haifa, Akko, Afula, Nazareth) or 15 minutes walking (central bus and train stations).
Karmiel is mostly residential and quiet, on Friday nights and Shabbat the only options for going out are at a small restaurant complex and a large out door shopping and restaurant area on the outskirts of town. In town there is one indoor mall. There are a few local bars in town, and some brueries with pubs in the surrounding communities.
Staying here would be good if you:
* Need some down-time from busy and hectic settings, for long periods or just for a weekend
* Want to travel to destinations in Northern Israel and need a base camp.
I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, so no meat, fish or seafood in the kitchen. You can bring or order meals or dishes that were prepared elsewhere. I have a beloved cat who mostly keeps to herself and we are greatly honored when she graces us with her attention. I recycle and do not where shoes in the house. I do not smoke and prefer no smoking at all, but you can smoke standing next to the window. I don't drink alcohol. You can drink but not to the point of inebriation.A little more information
